Deer camp food? Ice fishing belly warmer supper?  I don't know....you decide! Lets come up with a good name for it!   I've been on a non-stop cooking jag for the last 3 days, and wanted something different for supper, I've had fish, chicken, pork, beef, chops, stew, soup, brats, dogs, stuffed peppers, you name it.....thought I'd try something different. I've previously mentioned this Summer about the Bush's "Sweet Heat" ( limited time only)  beans in the spicy sweet sauce. So....I chopped up a large white onion and a green pepper, and let them sweat for a bit in my soup pot. Meanwhile, browned a lb of lean burger, and cooked  and drained 1 1/2 cups of small elbow macaroni. Dumped both of those in with the onions and peppers, and added the can of beans (These are big 22 oz cans) Added some Mexican chili powder, and about 10 oz of TJ's Salsa Authentica, a natural  but not chunky salsa. Slow simmered for about 15 mns, covered, and then let rest. It was a thick, smoky, sweet and still with lots of bite kinda "goulash''. (Which I normally hate) It really sticks to the ribs, and is very filling. Just thought I'd pass that along, it's easy and quick, and pretty darned good. Tip: might want to open a window a bit about an hour after eating.

Boar didn't answer because he's taking a night class on spelling and typing at the community college tonight. He went last month but they held him back a few grades and he had to start at a little lower level.  :)

Thanks for all the input, and hope ya'll try some soon. And Boar, you and Smurfy can even argue over adding HAM.

Haha you funny guy. Just as bad as Boar!

About that spelling class.......?...????

some  days Boar's spelling and typing are great.  Some days I wonder if he has brandynipitis or he's trying to post using his phone and has some rather large fingers.  It's all good either way.

we can't all be good at everything.  I'm still wondering why when you bait bear you put logs on top of it?  I've never done it and would have to go to community college to learn the first thing about it.  Tell me why?

Also, I'm still bitter that in 5th grade I lost out in a spelling bee about state capitals to Amy Johnson.  I screwed up Tallahassee and she nailed it.  It's affected me for years.

Several reasons for log on bait, keeps other critters out for the most part, keeps rain off some, cutting logs to 5 ft lengths gives you an idea of how big the bear is, keeps the bear distracted digging into the bait so you can ready yurself and calm down, and if done right positions the bear for a shot, by funneling the bear, if you lay two very large logs in a V pattern, and place the bait at the point of the V it creats a positioning corridoor for a shot. Here endeth the lesson.

It's obvious Boar was subjected to the Arkansas standard reading/Spelling test, through no fault of his own. However, we can still (usually) understand what he is trying to say, regradless of his blood alcohol level, and we love him and accept him just the same.

    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
