maiden voyage today.  fun !  7 smallies.  a dandy 18 incher was really fun!  crazy catching them while pretty much sitting at water level. lottsa taildance splashes. gotta figure out a small anchor for the front.

I'm envisioning the anchor.  I bet you've got one of those dog "tie" down stakes that screw into the ground.  You know the one you bought and used once?   Little concrete in a cardboard box or milk jug, tie down stake in it and some rope and a clip.   Set the concrete peel the "form" away and your in business.

thinking some kind of eye bolt up front.  3 pound downrigger ball or something like that, and a rope. not gonna get too spendy.

Eyebolt in a coffee can full of sac-crete.  For extra grip stick a few lag screws (or some rebar) into the side of the coffee can a few inches before filling.

The basic $5 (or less) anchor.

A 1.5lb grapple anchor can be had for about $10 and it folds up out of the way...

I use a 4 lb dumbell for an anchor on mine.  Works great.

For my canoe I use a basketball net.  I tie off the bottom and run a rope through the loops at the top.  I fill it with as many rocks as needed to do the job on the given day.  Works really well and its a breeze to portage when in the BWCA.

How much does that bottle weight now with the quikrete?  Its a good compact size with nice easy attach point, nice job thinking outside the box.

just under 3 pounds. not sure when I will test it but hopefully ok.  not gonna be using it in wind.

specific gravity of concrete is about 2.3, so your 3 pound anchor is less than 2 pounds in the water. 

I would drag it across the lawn to see how much drag it will cause. 

It is a cool idea, but I'm in the naysayer camp.

I was thinking walking across the yard dragging it.  Paddling would be really tough.

Eh.  The neighbors have seen me practicing my casting and flipping to trees for years now.  Some guy dragging a kayak around wouldn't be that weird at all.

What kind of kayak did you get Royce? I love kayak fishing. It takes a bit to get used to but once you do it's tough to beat on small lakes and rivers!
