mine has more than its an 07

and it fires like its brand new

and purrrrrs and mines a 150

if the price is right he wont be disappointed

way more power and lighter than any 4 stroke he could hang on his boat

and depending on the boat he can probably troll with it with out to much of a chop

432 hours can be meaningless info . If it was used for fishing and the owner trolled with it the hours would add up fast but the wear on the engine minimal

Or, was he bouncing around WOT like Jacques Cousteau chasing after a super-pod of Dolphin on a feeding frenzy?

Actually, I believe countless hours of idling is harder on most engines (2-stroke or 4-stroke) than WOT.

Yep! Talked to them again and got a read out of usage.

Was told 40% was idle . 35% 3500 rpm and below. The rest was below 5000 rpm.

Asked them to do a leakage test on the cylinders. Don't know if that would show in a read out or not.

Thanks!

Had a chance to talk to the dealer I got mine from yesterday at a boat show. He told me the national average is 50 hrs. use per year. Showed him the break down of RPMS and was told that about right too. He had no concerns about he hours. Said he has a couple that have over 600 with no problems as long as they were maintained right.

My wife's son talked to the dealer again yesterday. They agreed on a price today. He won't take delivery till this spring after the dealer has had it on the water to be certain everything works. smile THINK SPRING!!!! grin

I have a 2006 150 Horse E Tec. So far, no issues and you should be happy on the water with it.

I've even used mine for trolling. Granted, I only use it for trolling when I'm trolling spoons on Lake Superior but it seems to troll at the ideal speeds without the trolling bag needing to be put into the water

Enjoy!!

How many hours are to many? Thanks!

For longevity of a modern outboard 2,000+

For resale in MN, 300-400

In MN we are very spoiled with low hour boats, guys up here start raising an eyebrow when they go over 200. A Minnesotan might skip over a boat that has 500 hours on it, where as a Floridian would think "great it has low hours".

Simple number of engine hours never has meant that much to me...paper work /proof of maintenance and a quick look at a guys truck and garage will tell me much more than a simple number of hours a motor had been running....low hours on a several year old boat are way more worrisome to me than 100 hrs per year on a well maintained motor...show me a 7 yr old engine with 50-100 hrs on it and I'll show you how fast I can still run.

My dad brought his outboard for winterization this fall and the mechanic told him he's seen more problems from people who rarely run their motors.

I would ask to see a print out from the motors computer. This can not only tell you how it was used, but will/ should show any history of problems it may of had. Also! If it's a dealer; did they sell the motor new, any problems they know of. If a private person. I would ask them to take it to a dealer to have it plugged in for a read out.

He'll be happy with that motor!

We have a 2006 18" Voyager pontoon with a 60 HP E-TEC bought brand new. Never done a thing to it. The only problem is the little 1 gallon plastic oil tank that fits under the hood / cowl sprung a slow leak.. we replaced the plastic tank it cost $75. That motor will go almost all summer long before adding any oil to that little tank and very fuel efficient, you just breathe on the starter and away it goes, love it. The dealer did a software flash update a few years ago for more efficiency he said..

Last year we bought a 2003 Alumacraft Trophy 175.. The previous owner re-powered it in 2007 with a brand new ETEC 150. The receipt showed he paid $16,000 for that motor! It originally had a 90 HP Etec, that was the largest diplacement at that time. He re-powered it in 2007 with a 150 HP ETEC.

It only has 110 hours on it, but you have the RPM history all in the CPU, no surprises. It runs like a raped ape. At idle it is almost, and I mean almost as quiet as my Dad's 140 HP Sukuke 4 cycle DF140. Under way, it is a little louder, but not much compared to comparable 4 cycles. Nothing like the old 2 strokes. It pops the 17 foot fish/ski boat out of the water and planes out immediately. It's like a mucle car , the throttle is so sensitive it throws you back.. It's kind of scary when you're drinking, be careful. When we have 4 guys and all fishing gear and TM attached to bow it planes out a little slower, but the performance is unbelievable. Cruises around 3/4 throttle very quiet, 32/33 mph. WHen you bury the happer down, trip it out, on our Trophy 175, GPS said 51 MPH with 4 guys running around Rainy Lake, TM and all our gear... You guys are making me miss summer with this boat talk!

Love them, he'll be happy.full-14402-53217-trophy175_2.jpg
