Time for a new truck

Recommended Posts

After moving our son to the U last weekend, the Mrs finally conceded it might be time for a new truck. Any input on the following 2014 (gas) vehicles would be appreciated:

F150 5.0L

Silverado 5.3l

Ram 5.7L

Not interested in a diesel this time around nor am I interested in the Eco-boost.

Thanks

I bought a 2014 F150 XLT 5.0l V8 Super Crew Long Box Eqipment Package 302a on July 3rd.

The biggest feature of the package I bought is the rear vision camera. Makes it super easy to back up to a trailer.

I am impressed so far. Have put just over 5000 miles on it.

MSRP was 46k and change.......I paid 34k Out the Door. So I really got the truck for 31.7k plus 2300 bucks in Tax, Title, Registration.

I bought it from HayFord Ford in Isanti. Exclusive to them they have a 7 year 100k mile powertrain warranty....any ASE certified shop can perform the work.

Standard Ford Warranty is 5 years 60k miles.

I couldn't be happier with my truck.

2013 f150 5.0 bought new in jan. only have 4500 miles on it so far but love it. We run a lot of fords through work and my 2012 has 107000 on it and only put a set of tires (due for set again) and a water pump last week. runs great.

If you're planning on getting rid of the truck before the warranty runs out on the motor I'd get the Sierra or Silverado in that order (gmc just plain looks better). Then the dodge again only if you're getting rid of it before the engine warranty is up. Both these vehicles have the 4 cylinder shut down which is junk especially in the GM products. If you are planning on keeping the vehicle well past the warranty I'd go with the Ford.

Dave, I would recommend going and driving them all, and pick the one that you are more comfortable in. All of the above mentioned trucks are much improved over previous models, and to be honest, any manufacturer will have a lemon here and there. Buy the one that puts the biggest smile on your face while you are driving it, and sitting in it. Dont let the blue oval/bowtie/or horns influence your purchase.

Dave, I would recommend going and driving them all.

I have driven the GMC and the Chevy and have ridden in the new Ram with the 5.7. A friend has the Ram and I'm impressed by what he's gotten for mileage on the highway with it (Eco-diesel numbers).

I plan to drive all 3 on Saturday so I can more accurately compare.

One stickler with the Toyota is price. I've never seen Toyota compete with the other brands. While you can pickup (no pun intended) a domestic brand in the low 30's, nicely equipped, the comparable Toyota seems to run a good 8-10K more. That's money that I would be putting into a spray-in bed-liner, topper and a few other interior accessories for hunting.

If I can find anything close in a Toyota, I'll definitely consider it but our local dealer hasn't been carrying squat for truck inventory. Very few Tundras and no Tacos.

RRR, did you have to haggle alot with them? I called (Hayford) today asking for their best deal on what sounds like the exact truck you bought, 5.0 with the 302A package.

They have what I'm looking for on the lot. I started looking on Wednesday in Alexandria and our dealer doesn't seam to care on negotiating sale price. Standard $5,500 ford Rebate. They did give me good trade in value on my 2011 Silverado though.

Might be making the trip back to Isanti this weekend, we'll see.

You might want to test drive used trucks (Ford Chevy Dodge Toyota) with 30-50,000 miles on them. I know a few guys that have done this when lookng for a new truck. They both ended up buying Toyotas. I have a 10 year old Tundra, I think it's as quiet as my brother-in-laws 2014 Ford F 150.

Nice Dave. I hope to take delivery of the same rig but in white this week.

Does anyone know what the wheels are made of on Dave's truck? They look to be chrome, but what is below the chrome (Steel)?

Bought it in Owatonna.

Thanks for the compliments. Lovin' it so far. The sun hitting it just right really makes it stand out otherwise it's actually darker than it looks.

I thought the same thing. Looked sharp in the sun, and dark and not so good when not in the sun. That is why I went with Ruby Red Metallic.

That was one of the three colors we would have chosen. Our neighbor had bought a new one a couple months back and we always thought it was blue. Nope, it's green too. I've got the longer box though grin

Already at 1800 miles and had a couple tanks where I averaged 22 mpg. Been experimenting with different gas stations to see where I'm getting the best mileage from. It's been 19-22 average so far.

Harvey, I have wondered the same thing. My cousin bought a Ford F150 Limited last year with the retractable steps and had no trouble with them last winter.

My nephew just bought a new Tahoe SLT with the same steps and has been assured no trouble with snow and ice clogging them up. I don't know how it doesn't happen but supposedly they work in the winter just fine.
