First time to a movie theater in a while

$43? This is why I watch most movies at home. I can have a beer and hit the pause button too. Also don't have to deal with people on their phones. The last theater I went to had the lounge seating (leather recliners). I must say that was nice.

How to train your dragon. Mom wouldn't let us see that or transformers....big and little slumped shoulders.

Man, who invited the party p ooper? Next time leave mom and home, you save some money AND you get to see monkeys shooting guns. Thats a WIN WIN in my book.

It's fun to go see a movie here and there with the kids, however it is never a cheap night out anymore in the theater.

Pending on what theater you go to and if you have a membership to sam's club (costco may do the same) you can purchase gift cards for the price of a ticket at a discounted price. (at least they have that down here @ the sams in sioux falls)

Anything to help deflate the blow of the cost.

Lately we have been getting a kick out of going to the drive in in Luverne, mn. 2 newly released movies...5 dollars a person over the age of 5.

A year or so ago I did some movie theater work. Since my last film had been the re-release of Star Wars back in 1999, it had definitely been a while. I saw the new Star Trek, Superman, and a zombie movie but at the full service theaters - food and beer at your seat, 3D, balcony seating... It cost quite a bit more but you get quite a bit more.

I came away with the notion that if you watch a lot of movies, it makes sense to invest in a home theater. If you see a handful of movies per year or almost never (like me), it's worth just paying for a good experience at the theater.

Home theaters typically run $500-$2000 for the stereo and speakers, plus continual investment in upgraded TVs ($300-$1000) and media players (blu ray these days $100). If you assume that you upgrade those things every five to ten years, that's a lot of $43 family movies that you could have seen in the theater. $43 x 12 months x 5 years equals $2,580 every five years for one family movie per month. Do your own math to see if it balances out for you.

My daughter and I go almost once a week. We go to discount theaters. So you don't get the 3D but you save big. We used to good to Woodbury 10 till we moved now we go to the East Bethal Theater. It's $5 before 6. Not bad. We can get popcorn and a soda and still see a movie for around $20.

I was wondering if he was old enough yet for the fun stuff. smile

It was ten years inbetween me hitting the theaters as well. Finally started going again a couple years ago, some movies are made to be seen on the big screen.

2 out of the last 3 movies I've seen, we had the whole theater to ourselves, whoo hoo for mantinees!
