You Just Never Know

Sat am i had planned to take my little fishing buddy (8 yr old son) fishing. well he decided to back out on me at last second. His one year older brother (a decent daily complainer & kid who hates to be outside) said "well i'll go if you want". i said well ok (thinking this would certainly shorten my trip and and curb the fun). after getting to lake big motor would not start so i decided to cautiously continue our adventure with the trolling motor battery. well we were on north end of lake attempting to go south and with the semi strong southern winds i soon realized we were not going very far & then trolling motor battery started cutting out intermittently. so quarter way out into the bay 50 yards from shore i had to drop anchor because of 2 motors that suddenly decide they have ideas of their own and a breeze that made controlling the boat almost impossible. so we sat for an hour in the middle of nowhere and attempted to make the best of a bad situation. then my son who had not fished in 3 years pulls up a 9 inch perch and he was ecstatic! it was truly game on for him. sadly that ended up being it for our bites that only lasted 1 hour. after helping me clean out the boat the said "dad, this was better than playing video games." i almost fell to the ground in shock and kindly asked him to repeat what he just said. after he said it again i told him how proud i was of him, that he was welcome to come with me again anytime, and how much he just made my day from a very crappy situation. he will probably be totally flabbergasted the next time out when the boat will be in proper working order and on some better fishing but with anytime on the water good or bad you just never know. full-37274-46097-img_96021.jpg

Now that's what it's all about! Getting out with the family and creating memories is what it's all about. I'm glad you were able to get the older kid out and I'm even more glad that he had fun. Any time you are "more fun than a video game", you know you're doing something right. smile

Sounds like he was having more fun than you were. Boat problems can be so frustrating. But I'm sure seeing him catch a nice perch and smile made your day and the video game comment was just icing on the cake.

Must be doing something right. smile
