What's the value of this old BAYARD 22 ?

Recommended Posts

I got this old gun from my father in law and am thinking of bring it up to the HSO swap meet this coming Sat to sell it along with two other 22's. I really have no idea what it maybe worth. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info on the web about it for value. Anyone with a good gun book or idea? It is a Model 1908 BAYARD 22 short made in Belgium. I know they call it a half semi-auto because it with eject with gas but is a single shot. Very nice little gun with a checkered stock but does need a little part and spring added by a gunsmith which is shown in the close up picture. It does not keep the gun from working though. Not even sure what to ask for on this one? confused Thanks for any info. smile

Your little rifle is truly a collectors gun and some Bayard nut would like to have it. Now,...I'm not saying it's worth a fortune but it will command some attention.

It is likely the little rifle was in a shooting gallery at a carnival at some time in its life.

An auction scenario is your best bet for selling it.

Thanks ufatz. So do I Google BAYARD "nut" to find a good price grin on it?

Go to one of the gun auction sites and post it. They are not really rare (Bayard was a well known maker of firearms) but that model is unusual, to say the least. Do not try to shoot it with modern .22 ammo.....might wreck it. I know they have sold for $100-$200 but who knows.

Thanks ufatz but I have shot it already and she works great. I'm pretty sure it's worth a lot more then $1-200 wink

Fine, $201 and not a penny more! laugh

Getanet, I do have one other HSO member interested in it so if I don't hear from them maybe we can work something out before I bring it up to the swap meet tomorrow. wink

Uhhhh....well, you asked for help and I provided some. I was not OFFERING you that price....telling you what they sell for. And if you are shooting it and having fun good for you. But ALL professional advice says DON'T shoot it with modern .22 loads.

But hey!.....you're in charge here.

Nice meeting you Leech and Thanks

Gordie, it was nice meeting you. Hope you can make that gun look like it should.

After we met I went in side Cabala's and looked around on the consignment rack and now kick myself for letting the Model 67 Win 22 go for so cheap at the swap meet. There were 5-6 of them priced between $300 to $400 shocked

Anything that's old and says Winchester on it is worth good money if it's in fairly good condition. That Bayard is old and rare enough there probably isn't a set price, you just need to find the right buyer.

Well, what was it's value then?

We found it as high as $380 to $400 on the net. But, I have a soft heart and sold it to another HSO member at a good rate! grin

It did have one thing that needed to be fixed so being a Gunsmith it shouldn't be an issue for them.

When it comes down to it, it's only worth what another is willing to pay. Cool looking gun.

Yes this is true and using a gun auction site or a big sporting goods store as a way of pricing a gun is not the best way to go. I have seen people use a specific gun auction site to price their guns and what they don't realize is that the gun price on the site is what the seller wants as a starting bid and most of the time there are no bids on the gun and it will list two or three times. It doesn't mean the gun is worth that much. Same goes with the big sporting good store the prices they have on those used guns are outrageous and that is why the sits there so long. You can go make an offer and they will bargain with you, but they are getting what they want out of it in the end and the buyer feels he got a good price and probably still paid to much IMO.

When selling a used firearm you have to ask your self would I pay this much for it? This is a different story if it is a true collectable and has been appraised as such.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
