Starving Deer

Recommended Posts

Its Unfortunate , If one were to call the DNR about it in time would they even do anything or just let nature take its course ? Kinda makes you wanna dump some corn in front of the lil fella but then again in some cases you'd be breaken the law . Tough to see but it is nature !!

I don't know about the rest of you dudes but I'm gonna let my conscience guide me when it comes to helping the critters this spring. I may worry a bit about somebody slappin' the cuffs on me and hauling me off to the dungeon but I gotta live with myself too.

Ya'll do what you think is right.

It would be nice if the states would make a law in situations like this where the hunter who is in the woods all the time and sees this stuff "let them do what they can" but can a law like this be regulated is the question? there are idiots out there who would abuse it too ! IMO on my own private land i'm going to do what i have to too ensure the population is good !

Maybe you think it's clear, but what do you mean by "Let's wake up"?

I don't think many people don't believe deer aren't starving to death this winter.

refer to the sentence immediately following "let's wake up".

It's bad, especially the northern 1/2 of the state. As far as feeding now, it is probably too late for the them. I believe we will bounce back but it is going to be several years before we see the good old days of high deer harvests again. 6-7 years ago, I thought our winters were over. NOT

We've had a brutally cold, long snowy winter over here in the NW corner of the state. Last week, driving between Grand Forks and TRF I saw a winter herd of deer that had to be pushing 150 animals. They seemed to be doing fine.

They'll never do it Buck...the $$$ lost through license sales would be incredible. They may go bucks only, and I hope they do.

"Ticket sales" are what drive the DNR...they will find themselves in a very precarious situation if they start handing out doe permits in areas we've all heard have no business in doing so.

And that fact that they wouldnt close it to me is sad, pathetic, and disgusting. They are incapable of taking the "correct," action because of dollars????? They are the gov't for goodness sakes, money shouldn't matter. All the should matter is doing the correct thing for the herd, not of next year's budget.

A friend down by Big Lake said he thinks they've lost 25% of the deer down there! They've been feeding and they've often seen weak deer come to the feeder and then find them dead the next day. It's not just up north this year.

SmellEsox,

I live in Big Lake area. While I can't put a percentage on it, it has no doubt been tough. My home butts up to 36,000 acres of state forest and wildlife refuge. It has been really tough here, but the appearance of the deer vary widely. Some look like death warmed over, others look healthy as can be. I drove by the Mora area a few weeks ago and the condition of the deer in that area was a real eye opener. Several deer simply looked like a bag of bones and could hardly ambulate. On the bright side, I am seeing some deer yarded up together moving a bit more freely the last couple of nights while I was on

way to work. The snow is pounding down here now again, so lets hope it melts fast for the ones having a rough time of it.

It's not everyday you see the word "ambulate" used in a sentence. In fact, it's the first time I've ever heard it.

I have family in the Mora area, and hunt in the vicinity. All things considered our group saw an average amount of deer this past season, but hopefully this snow storm isn't as bad as they are predicting.

I think the public's wants play a big role in there too. People would flip carp if they couldn't hunt. There is a percentage of deer hunters that think they are somehow entitled to a deer every year as it is.

I was glad to skype into our place up north and see some deer that bed down nearby in the camera field.

They looked big and fat, someone's had some chow out for them it seems!

Sad videos above, hate to see anything starve frown
