Hey guys - please check in here and mention when/where you'll be hunting this spring. Also throw out a few ideas for our team name!

I'll be starting off in NE 4/10 and then MN 5/1.

ANYFISH2 checking in! Looking forward to the season and contest wishing everyone tbe best of luck.

My season will be 507a Apr 16-20th. I do my hunting in the Motley area in past years we've had good numbers of birds, I may have lost my core area this year so it may be even more of a challenge this season (if thats even possible).

Not real creative but off the cuff ideas for names, strut busters, roost rustlers, flyin feathers.

I will be hunting the archery season with my x-bow. I will be hunting around the Princeton, MN area. I will be getting one of the nephews out with the shotgun the second season. His dad is getting married opening weekend. I have been scouting a bit and some of the big winter flocks are starting to break up around here. I asked my nephew about names for this contest and he said Tom Toters. Just to let ya all know I have not got a turkey yet while being in the HSO contest. I hope to change that this year.

Sweet - we're all here! Beautiful turkey country along the Missouri river. Very similar to where I hunt on the Nebraska side. Alright guys, we still need a name. I like ANYFISH2's "Strut Busters" name suggestion. Anyone else??? Here's how our lineup shakes out this spring.

5inches of snow for my hunting area tomorrow. Really hope that snow is gone by next week. Highs are in the 50's for next week so hopefully the sun will melt it. Not sure I will be too thrilled to be carrying an extra 10lbs of mud on each boot when it melts but its better than it being dry and crunchy so the birds hear you coming a mile away.

Well just got word that my main farm is still mine, at least for one more year!!! The excitment level just rose a ton. Now the birds just have to be there .

I will begin regular scouting this upcoming weekend and if all goes well I hope to pin down some travel patterns.

I really hope the snow forgets where motley is goes somewhere else, still have way too much to get rid of over the next two weeks.

Once again I wish everyone the best of luck!

looks like the snow for my hunting area will only end up getting 1-2" inches today so that's encouraging.

Opener is next Saturday but I am trying to make it down Friday if possible for some scouting and walleye fishing, gonna be a long week next week.

Hey sticknstring you will have to be a very lucky team this year if you win it all, the way I see it all the birds in my teams hunting spots will have to fly into the next county in order for you guys to have a chance.

And the smack talk begins. grin

The commute from St Cloud to Cambridge wasn't a lot of fun this morning. You definitely got a lot more than we did in St Cloud. This new stuff will mostly be gone by opener with next weeks forecast. But I think there will still be plenty of piles in the shaded areas in the woods and on hillsides.

In a few days... this snow storm will all seem like a dream. 75 in NE Wednesday - guess I'll be wearing shorts on the drive down! Hopefully open water by May 1st will keep the rift raft on the lakes and out of the turkey woods come archery season!

Scouting has kinda been a bust this weekend with zero birds seen and one track seen on the property, very strange. Actually seeing very few birds anywhere compared to just a few weeks ago, hopefully they are just braking up and are being shy.

There were some strutters (5) and 3 hens about 1\2 mile from the hunting grounds this afternoon hopefully they will work their way south.

I love this game!

Heard my first gobble this morning! Was up early working in the basement w/ the widows open and they were hammering behind the house. The geese, woodies, & roosters really had 'em going! Had to quit working and take in all the beauty that spring offers. Love this time of year!

I'm heading out in the morning. Gonna fish for walleye on the river and then start scouting and hopefully pinpoint some roosting areas tomorrow evening.

I'll be in the woods before sun rise Saturday morning. Wish me luck and good luck to the rest of you out this weekend.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
