F-150 New Tires

Recommended Posts

Need new tires on my 2010 F-150. Looking at Michelin LTX M/S 2 or LTX A/T 2. Anyone have any experience with these tires? I don't do much off road driving so pretty much city and highway driving.

Any other recommendations would be great? Got 37,000 on the original Goodyear's

I put LTX M/S 2s on my 2008 Chevy 1500. I honestly can't say enough good things about them. Quiet, smooth, and do surprisingly good in the winter. A month ago I was in Wyoming elk hunting and took my truck a few miles down a "road" that I really had no business being on. It felt like I didn't breath for about 15 minutes I was so scared. Lots of rocks from golf ball size to grapefruit size. It was steep and sliding off the road would have ended very badly. I was nervous not having an off road tire, but the Michelins held up just fine. I've got about 25k on them and can't notice any wear. I expect to get at least 75k on them.

I thought about getting more of an All Terrain tire, but they didn't make the A/T 2s in the size I wanted and I do 99% of my driving on paved roads so decided to try the M/S 2s. I'll almost surely put the same tires on when these wear out. A good buddy of mine does have the A/T 2s and is happy with them.

I do know a lot of people who run the Firestone Transforce tires and love them. I was going to go with them but they also did not come in the right size.

The Michelins are great for highway, but if you want a little more off-road grip without sacrificing tire quality on the highway, go with Firestone Destination A/T's or my favorite on my F150 are Hankook Dynapro ATM's. You can get both tires in P or LT rated tire.

I have Michelin LTX A/T2's on my 2013 F150. Their quiet and roll forever. In the snow traction is ok, don't expect them to be a true all terrain tire because their not. If I was to do it again I'd buy BF Goodrich a/t's or Goodyear Duratrac's.

I have the LTX M/S tires on my 2010 F150 and will buy them again. My millage went up due to the low rolling resistance, the traction is more than I need for my driving and they are QUIET! They ride so smooth and quiet that I often find myself cruising close to that 80MPH range if I'm not paying attention.

I don't want to appear contradictory to your post, but I had BFG AT's on a 2007 F150. Hands down they were the worst tire I've ever driven on. Way worse than the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's (basically a car tire) that came stock on my 2011 F150. The problem with them was that as soon as the tires slipped a little, the truck wanted to do a 360. It was scary, and I took them off with less than 2,000 miles.

To fix the problem of the SR-A's on my 2011, I got the Duratrac's for winter. Amazingly aggressive tire, but they killed my gas mileage. There is an incredible amount of rolling resistance. If I didn't do 35k+/year, they would be my tire, as they'll get you through about anything. I only used the Duratrac's for about 7,000 miles before I sold them.

There are lots of good tires. I've settled on the Goodyear Wrangler AT's for all around use. I'm on my 4th set on 3 trucks. It took110k to wear out my first set, and 80k+ on another before I traded the truck...would have easily gone another 20-30k. I'm now at about 20k on my current set. I've really liked these, and will continue to use them for the foreseeable future.

I've had the M/S 2's since last December on my '08 F150 and think they are a great tire. I don't drive on anything more than sloppy dirt roads so I can't comment about their offroad traction, but that's not what they are. Last winter they were great in the snow.

I had the BFG's on my Tundra and they were great... Also had the sra's on my old silverado when I bought it and I thought those were terrible, I guess opinions very.

I have BFG AT's on my 04 silverado for the last 2 winters and they have been great in the snow. I rarely ever use 4wd on roads. I'm not so sure on tread life. They seem to be wearing down a little faster than I like but the traction has been worth it. Not too noisy on highways. I didn't notice a drop in MPG coming from goodyear silent armors.

I'll be looking for tires this time next year for my f-150. Has anyone bought tires from online places like tire rack or any others? Curious if you save that much. Will retailers match online tire prices?

They had a comparison with Tire Rack posted at Costco today. For the tires in question, some sedan type car and michelins as I recall, the price of the tires was pretty comparable but the extras like mounting, valve stems, balancing, I forget exactly what was on the list, added up to a fair difference.

That said, I got a good deal a year or two ago at my Ford dealer. Includes lifetime rotation. I was totally happy with price.

I Had the A/T 2's On my last truck and they were phenominal tires! Very quiet and smooth on the highway, and excellent off road. IMHO they are every bit as good on the road as the ltx's with much more traction off.
