Best pan fish rod & reel combos?

A non custom that I love for gills and crappie is the Mitchell Meatstick. No need for a spring bobber with this rod and it is priced very fair for the average working man.

I would have to check my rod bag but I believe I have a TB panfish rod that I have hardly ever used. if I still have it, I would be willing to sell it to you if you may be interested.

Check out the 13 fishing wicked combos, I bought the 24" and 27" UL at the end of the year last winter and I love them for panfishing...They have a nice sensitive tip, I was catching smelt in 30 feet of water last year...I would also check out the 13 whiteouts, I hear there nice I will be adding one to my collection, but probably for eyes...It won Icast ice combo of the year, so I'm assuming its nice haha

I have a few combos but I'm looking for best sensitivity for fishing crappies and Sun fish.Price under $75.Thanks.

check out the Clam Dave Genz Legacy series that came out this year. the 24" ultra light model would be a good bluegill & crappie rod. it is offered with or with out a spring bobber. the other one in this series that would be a good crappie rod is the 26" light model. these all retail at around $59.99 for the combo. I had a chance to handle one of these in person and I really like the feel of the rod and the smoothness of the reel. the added plus for the reel is that the handle has a push button on it that allows you to fold the handle(no need to loosen a screw like on most reels).

Last year, my buddy and I really hit the panfish hard. My brother bought me a Black Betty combo for Christmas. I wasn't really big on the straight lines till I used it. Now I'm a true believer in the straight line reels. Even bought a BB 6061 because of my experience with the straight line, and got a second straight line with the new No. 8 Code blue that came out.

My BB set up ran about $52 My no.8 set up ran $32. Both have cheaper UL HT rods with really sensitive tips. ( I did this because I broke two 13 fishing UL last year.)You can probably get a little better rod for either, but they seem to work great. (Note haven't tried the No. 8 yet since it's new this year)

Guys above have mentioned some rod options and all my experience is with DH, and Thorne Bros noodles which are out of your price range so I'll comment on a good reel to go with the rod.

Amazon sells the Okuma SLV 2/3 reels for $42.05 right now. These reels go quickly every year so act now because they're hard to find elsewhere at that price (16 left in stock). These are not multiplier reels so they work best in 20fow or less. I have not had a chance to handle any of the new inlines out for this season but I'm confident that the SLV reels are still pretty hard to beat for the price. These reels are very smooth and have a cork drag system that works great. The biggest downside of these is that they don't have a free spool and the handles are very small.

I use a 18 inch HT ice blue with a Schooley reel for all my winter panfishing. cost, around 10 bucks!

I LOVE the fact that Cyber goes out and kicks everyone's tail with a $10 combo. cool If you think you can beat him with your fancy inline multiplier and custom noodle then fish a UPL event and see how that works out for you. LOL

I will say this is one of the funnest setups ever! I met Mike a few years back and he introduced me to this combo. I already fished with some ht rods cut to desired length and with the schooley it is fun! Great for kids also.

Not the rod DTro.

More times than not, it is not the rod that outfishes the others, it's the knowledge. If one does not know what structure to look for, then any rod will not ice fish.

I would recommend Clam's Genz True Blue series UL rod, with or without the spring bobber, priced at $40. I love using mine for pannies and it works extremely well. I like using the spring bobber version cuz it's nice to see the light biters. Sensitive as all get out, but will handle larger fish as well, as the 8 pound northern I caught last year on it can attest to.

One generally can pick up a quality custom rod blank $50-$65 with alconite guides and pflueger trion $20-$25.

Otherwise I Iike the Gary Loomis designed Temple Fork Outfitter (TFO) ice rods $40 in with a Sienna 500/Pflueger president ($30-$50)

TFO ice rods actually have aluminum/stainless steel rod guides. Their Ice Rods feature TFO's Lifetime No-Fault Warranty.
