Fall Returns

Was up on Mille Lacs this weekend. Only got out for a couple hours yesterday and today. Hit the NW side for the first time ever yesterday and got skunked. Found some great looking areas but couldn't get a bite. Hit the SE side today for a couple hours and ended up with 3. They went 4lbs 1oz, 4lbs even, and 3lbs 14oz. Caught one on a jerkbait and 2 on a float and fly. First time ever trying that technique so I was pretty excited when I actually caught a fish on it. Water temps were anywhere from 42.5-45.5.

Some nice late season Smallies there!

I made it out this morning again from about 9am-12. Water was down to about 43 this morning and moved to 44 when I left. Unlike yesterday, nothing doing today on the lipless cranks. Got 1 on a square bill crank(the biggest) and 5 on a clankin crank74. Ended up finding a little area in 8-10ft of water that all 6 fish that I got came from. Just slowly fished the clackin crank thru the scattered weed clumps and would pick one up everyone in awhile. Got a couple nice fat ones today, 1-19.5, 1-19 and the rest where in the 15-17in range.

I think if I was better with suspending jerkbaits, that might of put a few more in the boat after hitting it with the cranks. The fish definately were in a slower mode. I did try one for a bit but wasn't real confident with it. Also tried jigs for a bit but nothing on those either. Not a bad morning for some late fall fishing. Not alot of time left for me with deer hunting coming up!

Anyone make it out this afternoon? I thought with the warm up that the fishing might of been pretty hot as the day went on!

I was in west central MN Sunday. Water temps were surprisingly warm. I found 48-49 main lake and 50-51 in the afternoon in some protected shallow areas. Fishing was slow for me. I spent a lot of time looking for smallies in traditional wintering areas and I guess they weren't there yet. Only picked up one on a drop shot. Grabbed the jerkbait before I went home and got a couple largemouth in 5-7 feet off of a weedline. Nothing over 3 lbs. I did have a jumbo smallie chase a redeye shad back to the boat. Lots of sunfish in the shallows and a few little bass with them.

Western MN bite was tail of two days for me this weekend. Absolutely crushed them on saturday from 9-3. Probably best fall day numbers wise ever for me for largemouth. Average size was great too. (3-4 lb average). Big five went 25.5 lbs (with 3 5 lbers) with big 8 in the low 39 lb range. Crankbaits and Jigs were the baits of choice. Sunday was one of the toughest days I've had in a long time. A buddy was out an hour before us on the same lake that we were gonna fish and caught em good, but then the wind pulled a 180 shift on them at 9:00 and that absolutely shut the bite off. We got out to the lake at 9:00 and the bite was pretty much non existent. We fished for two and a half hours and caught 2 10" bass and one 3 lber, with no other bites in that time. We went to a different lake and stuck a nice fat 5.4 lber and a 3.6 lber, but other than that it was a few pike and a couple crappies. Also, lost one in the 4 lb range. Crazy what a wind shift can do to the bite! Sunday's totals were: fished from 9-3:30, 3 guys caught a total of 5 bass, 4 pike, and 2 crappies. At least sunday was a beautiful fall day!

Wind was brutal yesterday but fishing was great! Couldn't find any too far over 4 but a lot of solid fish including one nice walleye (too big to eat) and a couple big gators. 12 ft. and under mostly jigs but some on jerk...central mn.

Water temps were 46/47 degrees. Overall action was a little slow. Caught 14 bass in 7.5 hours. Largest was on a jig 20.25 inches picture below. Just about everything was caught on a jig or a swim jig. First time in a while, I didn't catch some on a spinnerbait

(PS, how do you post a picture in your note?)

Cool snow/bass pics PGA. Tell me, how does one become a PGA golf pro and bass fisherman? How do you have time to do both?

My guess is he was fishing in the snow. Probably a slow day at the course. grin

Nice fish PGA guy. You have to make hay when you can. My bro in law is a PGA teaching pro and I know how much time you guys put in. I can only get him out during the winter. frown

I golfed quite alot for 5 years straight years back, but stunk at it! Realized I wasn't fishing much either, so I quit after another crappie golf outing and have been happily fishing more since then. I haven't picked up a club in over 17 years. Just think of how many more poles and lures you could have with out all those green fees!

Todays report:

Made it out this afternoon for a couple hours. Things were slower, but did manage 4 bass and 4 pike. Tried slowing down with texas rigged baits and swim jigs, but got only one on the swim jig. Got the rest fishing lipless cranks and crankbaits slowly in 7-10ft of weedy water. Water temp was 42-43.

Gonna hit it in the morning tomorrow. Probably will be my last time this year, bummer!! With Deer opener next week, I will be in the woods the next two weekends. Not sure what it will be like after that, maybe ice fishing time.

Got out yesterday and it was tough but a great day to be on the water. Probably the last one for 2013. Water temps were 46-47. We got 4 nice bass with jigs at the weed edge.

Well, I made it out yesterday morning for what will probably be my last Fall Bass outing of the year. Fishing was pretty slow with the gusty winds not helping matters much. Ended up with 2 bass and 1 decent Pike for 3hrs out. Got both Bass on a SK Series 4S crankbait fished around the remaining weeds. Tried other spots and tactics, but nothing doing for us. Water temp was around 42 degrees. Depending on the late November weather, another Bass season is probably in the books for me!

Sorry for the bad statche, but it is Movember!

Love fishing topwater in the fall especially buzzbaits! Water temps down in to the low 50's. Usually fishing shallow water cover. Remaining weeds, timber, and docks. I've already started throwing a buzzbait a ton and there is a good chance it'll be on my deck the rest of the open water season.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
