Vexilar Sets the Bar Higher with the Launch of the FLX-28 Sonar Systems

Totally worth it, you'll be minting money before you know it..grin

If you can wrangle a deal on a head upgrade from Vexilar instead of a straight-up repair job for your defective fl22, I'd jump at that. The flx28 runs super clean and clear. The auto 5' range setting has worked well for me so far and I'm fundamentally anti-auto anyting.

Im considering upgrading my fl 8 but dont need all the fancy stuff. Im just wanting something that reads fish accurately and has the zoom feature. Is there much difference in the functionability between the the fl 20 22 and the 28. My fl 8 doesnt pick up my jig in water over 20 feet or have the zoom as the newer ones do so im just wanting one that functions for what I want which is showing me fish!

go with an 18 then...if you don't want bells and whistles but want zoom capability...18 is the same as the 20 other than the 20 having a flat screen.

I don't know if your married to Vexilar, but if your not look into the Marcum VX-1p cheaper than a fl-8 with the features of a 18. It has zoom,IR and comes with a case... Better bang for your buck IMO

Lol about the VX-1!!! Not even close. A good friend of mine had one. I've never seen someone throw their flasher so far because of frustration! grin

I've had my 18 (now my son's flasher) for 14 years and it's still awesome!

Good fishing,

I have had that same urge many times with my FL'18's, simple fix was a couple LX-5's

This has to be a joke? I love the logical mature arguments some of you Vex guys can make. The constant brand pushing is enough to make a person stop taking you seriously. The VX-1 is an amazing flasher, my dad went from an 18 to a VX-1 just because of the thin lines and case, and he says he will never go back to Vex until they can fix the "blob" problem. I have now converted my best friends brother as well!

VX-1 is a great underrated unit, for a very low price.

Actually the thread was a marketing ploy about how vexilar "set the bar higher" with the 28 but most of the features have been on other units for years and it still isn't even digital.

How is this raising the bar? The price those things cost you better get a couple thousand vexilar decals to plaster all over every vehicle you own because they are hardly worth it.

Evolutionary maybe, revolutionary? Hardly.

I like how this thread is about Vexilar, the poster has a Vexilar and was asking about newer Vexilar's. This is not about Marcums/Vexilars and which brand is better.

I wasn't trying to start a war with all the Vex nuts...The guy said all I want is a flasher that shows the bottom, the fish, and my jig o and has zoom...I was just telling him about the flasher that does all that and is also the cheapest... just saying

Marcum VX-1p-$249

Vexilar FL-18-$379

I think everybody here appreciates HONEST reviews, but the only FLX-28 review I trust so far is DTro or anyone else who has given an honest, first hand opinion. People are not on this site to get bombarded with how great Vex is, if they want that they can go to Vex's HSOforum (or watch those "fishing shows" that feature Vexilars and express how bad these "knockoff" brands are). You can't possibly be surprised you get backlash when you push the 28 so hard, and "LOL" at anything Marcum.

Is there anything that the 28 actually set the bar higher on?

I always say I am done with these threads, but the immature brand pushing sucks me back in! It doesn't help that it's -20 below out and I am not on the ice.

I feel the same Brian. Dtro pretty much tells it like it is. Most of the other guys who commented on the 28 are "team blue". It gets a bit irritating to try and find some real feedback on a unit when its clouded by folks who get their units for free or discounted. Opinions from guys who paid their own cash and tried other units are more valuable.

Just like there are Vexilar guys on all the forums there are also a few (2 that stand out more than any others) that seem to find there way into every Vexilar thread to try and promote "other" brands or try and put down Vexilar just to make their "brand" sound better. crazy

Get what you want. Trust your gut on whatever purchase you make.

See you on the Ice,

I used an FLX-28 over the weekend, have a 20 and a 22, have used an VX-1P, LX3 and LX5, seen plenty of LX7s. My favorite is the Vexilar FLX-28. That thing is awesome. Gain set to 0 with a Pro-View ducer and I could see tiny jigs easily, knock out weeds, see fish clearly and have no interference. We were out with a buddy trying to help him look beyond the tragic loss of his wife a week and a half ago, had 5 guys in a Clam 1660 pop up just hanging out, catching fish. 5 Vexilars in there and no interference. I like the 28 so much that I may sell my FL-20 and upgrade to the FLX-28. Really really good.

Tom's right on this, the 28 is everything the 22 should have been. The whole tri-beam22 fiasco really was a pita for me and many folks willing to enjoy their passion.

The vex bar has been raised, there are nice new features and improvements. That said, it's a bit hard to deny the irony in Vex's biggest new improvement in the last decade being a single beam renamed narrow beam transducer. Now there's marketing cheese at its finest.

Anyone wanna trade a LX7 for the FLX 28? I am a sucker for new toys and after being a vexilar guy all along I made the switch to the red brand. I love my LX7 never had any issues I even have an open water transducer in my boat that I use it for. Just looking to get back to the Vex.

I bought one of the Vex 28s this year. I have had it out on the ice 6 times this year. Works just fine but I Like my Marcum I had last year better. Anyone looking to get a 28 that has a marucm 6 or 7? I would be willing to do a trade. Can meet you on a lake to show you it works. Just like the digital better

Not sure if he ever found someone to trade, but you should look into it if you are serious about going back to Vex
