I've had 5 rods break on me. Not too bad since I've fished pretty hard the last 7 years

1) A $20 Diawa UL spinning combo. Broke on a cast, the reel still works to this day.

2) Shimano Cumara broke lifting a 2lb bass into the boat. mad

3) Shimano Cumara broke after sitting on it. blush

4) St. Croix Premier broke when a 5lb bass made a run under the boat during a tournament sick

5) All-Star ASR, one of the guide's came off the rod. The rod is still servicable.

The only rods I've snapped or broken have been a Crucial, a Setyr, and a Loomis, and they were all replaced under warranty.

I've had a handful of rods that have had guides come off or come apart, and I had a St. Croix where the finish started flaking really badly, to the point where I just quit using it.

I keep waiting for the kids to break one of my rods but it hasn't happened ...... yet ........

Let's see.

1. St Croix Premier - Broke on hook set. Not sure why.

2. Phenix Ultra MBX - My fault

3. Carot Stix Wild - Shattered into 4 pieces on a hookset. Only had it a couple months.

4. Abu Garcia Vendetta - Broke when a 20+" came straight at the boat so my rod was pointed straight up trying to keep up with it. When it got to the boat it went straight down and snapped the tip. Still got the fish though.

I have broken 3 in my life.

1st A Shakespere ultra light, snapped trying to pull a snag from a tree.

2nd A Shimano Crucial drop shot rod, broke on the next cast after a nice bass.

3rd A St Croix Premier ultra light, was hooked up with a big bass, made a quick turn and the rod snapped then she got in some timber and broke the line.

I have never broken a rod yet (Knock on wood) but are we counting rods dropped overboard by kids, stepped on by buddies wearing cowboy boots or just plain disappearing while making high speed runs across really good walleye chop? cry

I'm 50 years old and I've done a lot of fishing in my life. I've only broken maybe 5 or 6 rods in my life and they were all from bone head mistakes like the car door, the spokes on my bike, and just stepping on them. One of them I still use. Its just a little shorter now. crazy

I don't recall ever spending more then $50 on a rod, although some may have retailed for more than that. I currently have 8 rods in my aresenal. (5 spinning, 3 baitcasting)

I've never broke a rod while Bass fishing, but have broken a few rod tips during transportation and such. Throwing a couple rods in the back of a vehicle mixed with a bunch of gear for a family trip is never any good for the fishing rods!

2 broke well actually fishing...one on a hookset and another just being a little careless on a snag both with st croix.

Also had a buddy drop one over and have broke 2 on a boat cleat.

Good thing is st croix didnt question a one of them and got them replaced within 5 days...pretty awesome peace of mind. Didnt try to get the one on the bottom of lake covered but they might have done it!

At least 20. All but one on hooksets. Used to be a Fenwick fan, broke about a dozen, eventually filtered them into the garbage as they broke, same with about a dozen St Croixs. Started buying Loomis rods in the late 90's, and have broke one. That was an accident, as a plug I yanked off a bush came flying back, and somehow a hook pierced the midsection of the rod. Lost a few in the lake, but never had a hookset blowup, or a break while lifting a fish.

Also still have a couple old Shimano Speedmasters that have taken a thrashing since the 80's and still going strong. Wish Shimano still used that composite in a line of rods!

8 total.

Broke a cheap cherry wood spinning rod 5 years ago.

2 years ago I broke 3 carrot stix, each within 2 weeks of owning them.

Last year I broke 4 rods, ouch. St Croix triumph, Abu Vendetta, and 2 Phenix Recons. I broke both of the Recons in the same day, about 2 hours apart.

Gen 1 or 2 Recons?

Both Gen 1, 715c and 796c. I've heard the resolved the breaking issue with the Gen 2 models, hopefully this is true. I literally fished the 715 for 4 trips and the 796 was on its second outing when they both snapped.

I've broken the same Legend tournament twice on hook sets, both times the top 8-10 inches broke off. Once on a high sticked 1 lb bass and once for a reason I don't know on a 3 lb walleye. I broke a Fenwick Hmx last year upon casting, but this rod was owned by my gramps who isn't the most coordinated or careful guy at his age. I broke two other Fenwicks in a door at the same time as a kid. I lost one garcia combo in the drink as a kid as well.

Really nice looking rods. So, I'm assuming you havn't tried the gen 2 yet?

I'm on the fence between their M1 Swimbait rods and the Dobyns Mike long swimbait rods.

My replacements came in the dead of winter so not much time on the new models. I did get to fish the 796 for a hour or so and managed one 4lber on it, time will tell if it holds up. They are a joy to fish with, I just hope they hold up better this time.

My fishing buds give me dump about breaking two rods last summer. Both I swear were 10lb fish but You know how it is when there's no witnesses.lol The poles were cheap and where I was fishing I had no business being there so I had it coming I don't dare go to that spot anymore.

Only broke one while fishing.... It was a 7ft heavy Allstar muskie rod.... Lost a huge muskie near the boat, so I slammed the rod into the bottom of the boat... After a few minutes of pouting and cussing I picked the rod up and casted out, the handle snapped off right at the real seat during the very next cast... Went home after that cast.... I was truly defeated that day.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
