Dick Trickle

Recommended Posts

Read that last night as well...very sad. We watched him race every Sunday at Raceway Park in Shakopee when I was a kid. He ruled the track and won practically every race he was in. Even went to a SuperAmerica one night in Bloomington for a meet/greet and got my picture taken with him before he made the "big time".

Loved the in-car camera shots of him pulling a cigarette lighter out of the dash and lighting up a smoke when under caution in a big race. Very sad.

VERY SAD TO HEAR

I drank more than one beer with Trickle

Someone said he was one of the best out of the north

He WAS the BEST..no won come close to the features he won

He was offered more than one ride at the nascar level but chose to stay

where he could win

I remember the big shows at elko he would show up with like 5 mins left of quaifing and unload and go out and set fast time

he did that several times

i remember one sat night after the races we were all over at speed city(bar in elko) it was closing time and he being from wisc thought he could buy cases of beer till closing..I happen to be standing next to him when he asked the bar tender for a couple of twin packs to go the bartender said he couldnt sell that late

Dick said...do you know who I am..lol... bartender smiled and walked away

I told Dick gimme that money I'll get you all the beer you want

he gave me a couple of 20's

i knew the owner and and we always bought beer after closing

I had like 5-6 twin packs and went out front where he was and said here you go...he said just pass them out to different drivers that were standing around and keep one for yourself we all sat there and drank til bout sun up..and he said we better hit the road we hafta race tonight and off they went back to wisc..he always remembered me from that

and asked how i was doing when ever he was at elko or over at the races in wisc he was a fun guy to talk with

its a shame to see him go out like that

ya he was at elko several times

you could maybe go the elko web page they may have someting about how many times he won there and he won the fair several times also

he was a fun guy to watch....he would ride around till about half way though the race and then go you could watch him go threw traffic it was fun to watch him i saw him win more than i saw him not

he also was the first one to go out on superspeedways (daytona&dega) and throw away that first lap and rim ride to build up speed now everybody does it

just a fun true racer to watch

i think that post is wrong

i dont believe he was ever at raceway

at least i never saw him there and i go back quite aways

he was a cool guy though

No, not an incorrect post. We went to Raceway almost every Sunday when I was a kid and he raced there all the time. Drove the #99 car and won almost every race he was in. I never went to any other raceways, that's how I got to know him (not personally).

This would be the late seventies to the early eighties. The same era of Clark "Thunder Chicken" Shingledecker.
