Crappyfisherman
With all the hype about these reels have not seen much on how they are working or not working.Would really like to know if they are as good as they sounded.
mainbutter
Agreed, have not heard more than a peep or two about people using them.
amateurfishing
put an okuma 2/3 on TB powernoodle and will admit pulling line out sucks but when time to set the hook and reel in it is awesome and ridiculously smooth when it counts the most
Kodiak
i wouldnt expect much out of them,,rebranded chinese reel..look at alibaba there are tons of them on there. i wouldn't blow $100.00 on one until okuma or another reel manufacturer puts one out. There is no difference on who, where or what company puts out the product. The real issue at hand for such would be R&D and quality control.I have both the BB 6061 and the EC inline, virtually almost identical in design except parts, materials & finish.I use the reels mainly for finesse applications for gills, crappies and perch due to less line twist issues. Rigged up on 2lb-3lb test line and the tinniest jigs and plastics you can find. They have worked well for me so far and the free spool option may even be quicker the a spinning reel on light tackle when letting line out. Certainly best manually stripping line out by hand when your in 20-30 fow.Its not a reel for everyone, if you've never used a fly reel or inline reel before you may not assimilate well with use. Using such reels is a preference and the rewards it offer is enough for me.
Lawrence Luoma
So please tell me why someone would spend $100 on a reel when they do the same thing as a Schooley that cost me $3. It's really funny to me. The thing about it is I can hand strip line out of my Schooley faster than a 5mm tungsten jig can fall. So what is free spooling going to do for me? Here is a nice video of a 4lb bass I caught last week on 2lb test on a Schooley.
superseal
Nice video. You played the fish nicely!Do you loosen the tension on your schooley reel to hand feed the line?
Fishin4fun_MN
I have 2 of the EC inline reels. I happen to like them. You can fish them like a spinning reel (hand position) and yet the line comes off like a fly reel. It is essentially the best of both worlds. I have free spool and drag. The thing I like the most about it is that if I need just a little line out, just flip the line off the reel or strip a little off the spool. It is smoother than some of my spinning reels. I agree that it is not for everyone. If you are a skeptic, try one that someone you know has. They are not just Chinese junk. From what I was told, the BB6061 is designed and engineered by 13 Fishing and the EC is made in the same factory as the BB. This info came from a company rep at a trade show. Here is a nice video of a 4lb bass I caught last week on 2lb test on a Schooley.Because the reel is a multiplier, can handle heavier line for larger fish, has an drag system, free spool to help you from stripping line, and allow you to fish in deeper depths with ease. Try that with your schooley.Plus no point in stripping line out faster then your lure can fall. You will end up with a mess and frozen line on the ice if out in the open.EC inline reels can be had for $15-$30. However the BB 6061 was on the pricey side at $100. Esox_Magnum
I have the 6061 and it is a sweet reel, so far only used it in shallow but it's intended use is deep water and will be a sweet set up when that time soon comes...Not cheap and not for everyone but for me worth it and has a valuble place in my rod box...I would rank it as my #2 rod in any situation, my #1 when jigging deeper water for perch ect...I can't thinkof a situation I'll fish this year that it will not be in use no matter the target speicies.... broman
I picked up a Black Betty 6061 for a great price from the Bargain Bin at the Big C in Rogers. I've been spinning it and holding it like a kid with a new toy, but now I'm debating on keeping it or reselling it (recoup some money on an Otter I just bought). I mainly fish Mille Lacs for walleye and perch in 20 feet or more and most posts have been talking about it for panfish. I would be using buckshots and other spoons with this reel. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. For those of you who own this, how well is it working for you when fishing for walleye or perch in the 20 foot or deeper range? Esox_Magnum
Will work fine at those depths, I know one guy who is using his as a drift reel in open water for steelhead....If you do decide to sell it pm me...

broman
With all the hype about these reels have not seen much on how they are working or not working.Would really like to know if they are as good as they sounded. I decided to try mine out. I added it to a St Croix spring bobber rod and took it up to Red Lake this weekend. I am definitely keeping it. I fished inside my otter with the heat on and the line just flys off the reel. The smalles jig just flew down the hole. It was cool to watch to line come off so fast. I caught 4 walleyes on it in 14 feet of water. I didn't test it outside. It is the best reel I own.
hawkeye43
I used mine today in 34' of water and am thinking this is the sweetest reel I own. Like you said the line flies off the reel with the smallest jigs. I know what I want for christmas next year
Esox_Magnum
Used mine this weekend in 39', got the jigs down faster than my spinning reels....Wishing I had a couple more....
tview
For you that have the EC inline reel could you please tell me what there Item number and Product Number is?Thanks
Dark Cloud
Got to use my 6061 on a bunch of crappie this past weekend. 27 fow and she was dropping #10 and 12 tungsten jigs with plastics just great.... So far no glitches or issues, with I had another one or two
PFUNK
I have the EC reel and I really like it too. The free spool works awesome and I can get a tungsten jig down faster than I could with a spinning reel. Havent had any issues with backlash and line twist is better than with my spinning reels. Havent got to test the drag yet. I have only caught perch and crappies and have it paired up with a 13 fishing wicked rod. So far I am impressed. Would buy more if I could find them. Kodiak
i have the ec reel it did the job in the same 39' of water shaley was in. only thing is i don't think the drag on it is worth a dump so tangling anything other than perch might be a experience cause it seems it has two settings tight and loose.maybe it just mine but still it is a good reel for the $$.hold on to your cash because i believe next year the market will be flooded with high end aluminum bodied multiplier reels. Gus
I put one on backorder at cabelas also. Got it yesterday. Gotta say I like it so far. Time will tell. Anyone know if you can still find the Eagle Claw version? My son now wants one "like Dad". I doubt I'll be able to find another 6061 this season, so I may try the E.C.
