I've got the big C stores Super Mag 1600s. I really, really like them a lot. These are cold weather waders and they do keep my feet warm and the 5mm neoprene keeps the body warm. They are tough also. Have had them around five years with no problems at all.

I bought the big ( C) stores breathable 600 gram boot waders, LOVE them so far. I know there not going to be as warm as a 5mm neopreme but they are much more comfortable and easy to move around in. I had a heavy set of 1600/ 5mm befor and unless it was really cold I sweated my arse off in them. I can always put more on under the breatable ones if i need to..

Cabelas Dry-plus lightweight waders are the only way to go in my opinon. Easy to walk around in, easy to get on and off. Comfortable boots. I have found them to be very durable as well. I realize they are thin and not warm by themselves. However with a pair of wool socks and waders liners you have a very versatile set of waders. Will never go back to neoprene after using these.

i have had a set of fleet farms neoprene camos for about 5 years now, and the only problem I have had is when I tried to start them on fire with the boot dryer. A couple good patches glued inside and they have held together well. I think I paid 89 bucks for them... I am thinking of a diff. pair sometime, more so I am more of a stout man now than I was in college... and the 10 bucks extra for the stout size at the time was good money saved... I will also probably go with a heavier pair this go round as well... I do not like being to hot... but this pair is not near as warm as my last pair was which was 5mm... and I tend to have more time and enjoy hunting late season while everyone else is chasing roosters and deer...

It REALLY depends on what you are using them for. Steelhead fishing/duck hunting/cold water and not walking miles = neoprene. Walking a lot and use in hot weather at times = breathable. But a good high quality breathable is also warm if you just layer correctly. If you aren't walking much you can get away with models with built on boots, if you are walking a lot then you'll want stocking foot style and wading boots (so you can lace them up and get support). How much will you be using them? Do you wear a 'normal' size or do you need some custom size? Simms is the best I've used, lasted the longest, and have a good warranty. You certainly get what you pay for I know that.

What I have now is a pair 0f 3.5 mm neoprene with boots that you put on. I am looking for a heavier pair for the later season. My friend has a pair of the 1600grams boots from the Big C store and loves them. I am just concerned that the boots would be a little tough to walk thru the river bottoms with.

The heavier weight boots actually make a larger footprint and go better in the muck, I have a pair a 1000 gram and a 1600 gram and the extra size to the 1600 gram make me sink less in the muck. On the other hand they are more likely to tear on beaver cut sticks as the rubber on the 1600 is looser and catches on shtuff. IMO

Agree 100%. When in NoDak, and doing a lot of walking, or just for support when pulling your foot out of muck, the stocking-feet w/boot are 110% better than any boot-foot wader. A bit tougher to put on (time) but they are easier to dry out. Only prob is the guys with the boot feet waders will likely complain about the much and the stocking-foot guy will have to get the ducks wink

PS get good boots though if you do go Stocking-foot. I need some better boots to replace my old ones.

I would guess he wants a pair for waterfowl hunting..... I use the cabelas super mag 1600 and they are alright, the boot is so big! I shouldve gone with normal boot. I've had them since 2004.

Yep, I ordered those online and took em back to the store. The moon boots were a bit much for me. I have a pair of hodgman 1200 with 5mm neoprene and I have no complaints.

I would highly recommend getting ones with the boot and some thinsulate if the primary purpose is standing still in 40 degree muck swamps with miserable weather conditions.

algnak, it sounds like your advice is for fly fishing...

No it's for anyone who may wear waders and walk in them. Which is, most everyone. I don't think walking is an exclusive activity to fly fisherman. ;-) Any boot that laces is better support for walking- period.
