Salmo Chubby Darter vs Lindy Darter

Lindy Darter has rattles and chubby darters don't.

I think the Salmo has better action while falling. I have some of both and I always seem to do better with the chubby darters. Most people that don't catch fish with them don't fish them aggressively enough. They aren't meant to be fished like a spoon with meat on it.

Darters are best when fish are aggressive. When the fish are negative I'll switch to a buckshot or a macho minnow.

I use my darters in winter and early spring and have done well with them... aggressive is the key... an extra line with live bait close by once drawn in also helps! My lindy's I have not caught a fish on them yet.... hope to though...$$$

been using them on and MOSTLY OFF for 2 years now...

so far i have caught 1 northern.. and 1 crayfish by letting it sit on the bottom while i was occupied with something else....

i wouldn't buy another one... if the circumstances were right and they were productive.... they are fun to use..

Darters have their time and place, I do best in stained water or when the fish are realy aggressive. I have caught plenty of walleyes on both, but I gained confidence in the action of the Lindy darter last winter, so I do use the Lindy more often.

Here I was thinking about taking one out and jigging directly below my canoe sometime in the upcoming weeks, and hopefully nail a few pre-winter northerns or bass if they're in the mood.

Still might give it a try though. Makes you wonder WHY something like a buckshot (which, let's face it, looks like a shiny metal tube filled with BBs) is a proven producer, while something that to my eye has great movement, has sound, and has a more "fishy" profile does not seem to be as proven a producer.

"when the fish are active and aggressively feeding".... at that point.. you could just as well use anything in your tackle box and catch something...

I got a bunch of them... not worth it at all.

I was referring to the prime time for walleyes. I typically start off with them right away in the mornings and also go to one as it gets closer to sunset. My buddy I do most of my ice fishing with will typically start with a spoon and I'll start with a chubby darter and he makes the switch to the darter more often then I make the switch to a spoon.

When I fishing with a darter I typically start it a foot off the bottom and sweep the rod tip up 10 to 12 inches at a time. Once a fish comes in I will try to keep working the lure up and away sweeping the rod up 4 to 6 inches at a time. Most of my strikes will come a couple feet of the bottom either as the lure is falling or they will absolutely hammer it when I sweep up.

This one came on a chubby darter this December. I watched this big girl chase the chubby darter up and down the screen on my flasher until it hit 3.5 ft off the bottom in 14ftw.

I like the smallest size of the Lindy Darters... If you have a chance to fish Lake of the Woods buy a few of these! Great for your jigging line while you deadstick a minnow on the other! It seemed like I had to work for the fish a little harder with the Darter, but when an aggressive walleye crushes it like no other, you'll be hooked on using them and catching walleyes with it!

I think they are both great!! for me they serve different moods of the fish. when the fish are hungry and aggressive the Lindy darter gets the job done with the rattle and vibration it puts off. It also really helps bring the fish in. When they are finicky that day I always throw down a chubby darter. Nice presentation and not to aggressive. The holographic colors really throw off some shine too!!
