cliffy,
Tomorrow....fish or football??? Clearly FISH!! I'm going after 'em tomorrow, do the same! Hopefully I'll have a good report! Just a muskie rookie (47 incher in the book my 1st season), but I've learned so much this year, I have to get out and apply and grow my limited knowledge.

Read about football in the paper, not about other's fish caught!

I've been having a tough year, and not nearly enough time on the water. I have 7 so far, but the best part of the year is just approaching. The last two years I've caught 71% of my muskies for the year in November. So the next 5 weeks should be great!

Hiya,

I never keep count really - saves me disappointment if I don't do as well as last year or something, but I think my numbers are down a little this year. Lots of family obligations kept me off the water, plus I really got on a bass and walleye kick in August there for a while. Had a hoot with the smallies, but not as many muskies in the boat as a result. Catchin' up this fall though.

Here's the one that matters most to me though - my wife with her first 50, on Sunday... Was sort of leaning over to get shots of her releasing it and caught this shot with the digital. For some reason I think it's a neat photo... Can really see the shoulders on the fish. It was a dandy.

Rest of the year's gravy after seeing her lead that fish into the net. She earned it too - out all day Saturday in that dump weather, plus a year full of woulda-coulda-shoulda near misses. About as excited as I've ever been about a fish... cool.gif

Cheers,

RK

RK

was out on LCO this weekend and Had to troll. Man was it windy. couldn't control the boat for nothing!

anyway, trolled with big swim whiz and jakes 2 of each. one in a hot color and one natural. first hour nothing. Pick up the speed to just under 4mph and WHAM! 39"er! sweet we thought. Nothing for another hour. then brought in the hot colors and dropped suckers and went slow one more 41"er.

water temp was still 55.9

Does that mean the lake has not yet turned over?

Hey mudman -

Yeah - cripes was it windy on Saturday. Thank God for dual consoles...

Interesting about speeding up. I was really thinking about that on Sunday. I was working jerkbaits really pretty fast (fast to us anyhow) even though the water was 49 degrees. Fish were hot after it even in the cold water. When I troll on the fall, even late, I'm still going 3-4 mph most of the time, which is a decent clip. Sometimes I think when you're seeing slow, lazy fish, it's because you're fishing slow, lazy lures. They can't follow it any faster than it's going...

Don't know what to say as far as turnover. Lakes turn over at different temps depending on what the lake stratifies like, wind conditions, how fast it cooled down, and who knows what else. HIgh 50s is usually the rule of thumb, but with a weak thermocline and cold water in general, it can turn over in the low 60s. Plus it was such a screwy weather year besides. Some lakes never stratified at all, or had a very very weak thermocline. On the lake my cabin is on, you could barely mark a thermocline on my x-15 - it's usually a very distinct layer. I know a couple lakes that turned over in August during the cold snap we had then...

For some fish, particularly open water fish I think, I dont think turnover's as big a deal anyhow. At least it seems like they recover quicker...

Cheers,

RK

RK, I bet that was a blast watching her give that fish the business! My wife got her first sklunge this summer and it was a ton of fun. The one your gal caught woulda eaten the one my gal caught, but I enjoyed it more than any fish I've ever caught. Way to go!!!

That depends on how you describe as "caught". I have tangled with a total of 5 muskies this year, but ony have gotten 3 in the boat. However, IF I had a bigger net, I would have boated the other 2 for sure. So should I tell people I have caught 3 muskies, or 5? Anyway, this is only my second year fishing for those muskies, and caught only 1 last year, so I guess I cannot complain. The boated ones were 38", 42", and 43" respectively. That can only mean that "the BIG one" is next laugh.gif!

So far, boated 9 with a biggest of 48.5". Still a couple good weeks of prime fishing left though, hopefully will hit double digits. Five have been caught on topwater and four on my favorite Reef Hawg.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
