Meat Sales

Recommended Posts

Good point Del.  Should have returned it to them.  I generally dont buy meat at Walmart but a choice packer brisket for 2.49 per pound would be hard to pass up on.  They do mark down close dated stuff like other stores.  Ya, Jim, the flat's [brisket flats] are always higher than the whole packer brisket.  You will see this in the corned beef briskets also when they sell the points and the flats.  Flats always go first, and for a reason, more meat and less fat.  good luck.

Just be sure, if the price at walmart seems really good, to check the sell by date.

I got burned by that a few years ago.  Saw some meat, several packages, for a really good price, bought it home, got it out of the sealed package, it was bad.  Had to throw it all away.

Now I always check the sell by date, and don't buy meat at walmart.

Check close at places. Target redates their meat....ever see a tag over another? I have, numerous times. Pulled it off; redated! That's another reason I won't walk in there. OH Del, Fareway has some great thick pig chops on sale at  $1.88 lb, and rump roast at $3.49 lb, pig roast loins at $1.99 lb. Better check 'em out.....

I ended up buying the one at Costco, but as Reinhard said, it was pretty hard to pass up.

DNR seizes snapping turtle meat from Minnesota market

Posted: Nov 02, 2015 7:52 PM CSTUpdated: Nov 02, 2015 8:12 PM CST

FRAZEE, Minn. (AP) - The operator of a meat market in western Minnesota, his nephew and another man have been charged with taking snapping turtles out of season.

The state Department of Natural Resources in June seized nearly 1.5 tons of turtle meat, 243 shells and 23 live snapping turtles from Ketter's Meats and Locker Plant in Frazee.

State law prohibits taking snapping turtles in May and June. DNR Capt. Stacey Sharp tells the Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1iyPY64 ) the next task for investigators is to determine how much of what was seized was actually from turtles taken out of season.

The market's owner, 54-year-old Kevin Ketter; his 21-year-old nephew, Jordan Ketter; and a market employee, 54-year-old Darwin Bartel, were charged by citation with misdemeanors.

Kevin Ketter told The Associated Press Monday he had no comment.

Picked up my 8 lbs of it. Set for the Winter.  :P

Mostly I use the costco hormel black label precooked bacon.  It is so convenient if what you want is some bacon, as opposed to bacon fat or wrapped in bacon.

And it's good.

I've used the Black Label, but find it way too salty for me...and the price!!! Whoa!   After trying almost every brand I could find, except some of he specialty ones, (and NOT including butcher shop bacon, which is the best) I like the Farmland thick-sliced apple wood smoked the best. A lot less salty too, doing some brand comparison sodium rating.

Well turkey prices aren't going to be cheap like they were a few years back regardless where you buy them.  They either have one set price or cheaper prices but you have to purchase X amount to qualify for that price.

County Market has Frozen Jennie-o Turkeys for 68 cents lb. with a $75 purchase, 78 cents lb. with a $50 purchase or 88 cents lb. with a $25 purchase.  Boneless center cut pork roast for 2.48 lb.  Fresh pork spareribs for 2.59 lb.  Boneless round tip roast for 4.49 lb.  Boneless boneless ribeye steak or roast 10.99 lb.  Cure 81 boneless boneless hams for 3.99 lb.  Boneless round tip steak for 4.99 lb.   good luck.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
