A buck called "Allbrows"

Recommended Posts

Around the 5th of June I figured it was time to start putting some cameras back out in the woods. I captured a nice buck last year on the 18th of June and was hoping I could get a picture this year to compare to the previous, and to give me the assurance that he was indeed still alive! I had seen him up until he shed his antlers but never found the sheds. So I was 99% sure he was around, but its nice to see it! This time of year can be difficult in telling which buck is which because all you really have to look at is some fairly developed browtines. Fortunatly this individual deer had some unique brows with a big split on his right and a triple split on his left, so that made him easy to identify early in the year. When a buddy asked what he looked like over the phone, I replied "I dont know he has 7 points already and hes just All Brows right now! So stayed the name "Allbrows". He also had the split-brows in 2010 as well.

Here is the picture I captured of him last year on June 18th...

Now after pulling my cameras the first round this year, I was getting to the end begining to worry and... wait... look who shows up.... and I dont think he likes getting his picture taken! This picture is 10 day prior to when the picture was taken last year!

Hes bigger! laugh Im sure the the heavy rainfall, the mild winter, the available mineral, his genes, and his age are all in rhythm for this particular buck.. Obviously its a combination of all those elements, but its fun to see what some of them are capable of from one year to the next. He finished out VERY nicely last year! I will try to keep some photos up as I get them to watch this fella grow this year!

Enjoy this magical time of year where we get to witness natures fasted growing tissue blossom in front of our eyes!

Real good! What do you think spooked him? Shouldn't have been any flash or filter clunk at that time of day.

I don't know.... it makes me real curious. He obviously just sawit and knew it was out of place. Up until last summer we had a buck around who was 9 1/2 years old we called the Ghost. He was big, heavy deer with BIG split brows that i BET was this deers father. Anyways, from the time the Ghost was 5 1/2 to 9 1/2 we only got him on camera ONCE! But he was there. The deer was just wise to cameras and wanted nothing to do with them! We watched this deer come out in 3 feet of snow in daylight for weeks to the food plot... but put a camera there and he knew it! Would go around it, hed doudble back and take a different trail, he would not walk in front of it! I would have said he was gone if I ddin't see him myself. I got 3 pictures of him the day he shed his antlers in 2010. He died of natural causes the next summer.

I wonder if dads personality traits didn't carry onto this fella a bit... as this deer is very nocturnal during the season as well, much like the Ghost was.

It fascinates me how each deer is unique, not only in appearance and antlers, but the personality and attitude of each one. They are very "people-like" in that sense.

I have a buck in my back yard that is pretty similar, got a few pics of him as a 3 and 4 year old (all night shots). Once he turned 5 I got one pic of him in July and that was it for the entire season. He is around this year, I have seen his huge tracks but he avoids my cameras at all costs.

Some deer are so camera friendly, and others just hate being in the spotlight under any circumstance!

This is the sole reason I personally dont buy into the 'flash vs. infrared' debate. It does not matter what kind of camera it is, its the PRESENCE OF THE CAMERA the causes alarm to the deer. Flash, red glow, or black out... some deer will tolerate it, others simply will not, especially older experienced deer!

I guess you have to scent clean your camera's just like any other item you bring in the woods or else them big boys won't pose for the camera and say "Cheeze"!!!

That deer is gonna be a nice one for sure! Good Luck and keep the pic's coming!

Out beyond the ears is always a good sign!!!

Show us a picutre in two months!!!

I do agree that some bucks avoid cameras, I've gotten pictures in the past where the buck was like 'what the heck was that' - and never gotten another picture of that buck. And other ones will come to the camera every night.

After this conversation he's bound to disappear for years! How embarrassing!! Glad it's not me in the pic!!! I don't have very big antlers, but.....

Honestly, I could be wrong, but with the wide spread, and short tine length, this guy could be on the down slide of old age. Course it could also be just very early in the year and he might put on some length as the year goes on.

Maybe he's the old "ghost" you're talking about, in the second pic? He seems a bit camera shy.

He's 4 1/2 years old, and trust me, this flower is about to bloom!!!!
