South Dakota vs Minnesota for Walleyes

I can see that my 50-100 fish comment got some blood boiling. On another note just saw that one of my buddies was fishing in South Dakota, and they got 4 walleyes around 26-28 inches and he said about 100 other eyes smaller than that, and this was not on the River, now that will make a man jealous! Another thing to remember is that the Missouri is around the same distance, as some of the larger lakes in far northern Minnesota.
2 weeks ago had a day like this on LOW. 2 guys easily caught 100 fish and had 4 over 26, a 30" pike, 12# eelpout and a doaen tullibee.

I hardly think there is any blood boiling. Just those "epic" days can and do happen in MN on a variety of lakes.

I'm originally from SD any they do have some great fishing but everything is so spread out there. There is a lot of driving you have to do a lot of the time. I can drive 5 minutes in each direction of my place in here in the cities and be fishing a decent lake or drive 20 minutes and be on either the Croix or the Miss. GOD I LOVE MN!!!

I used the top 5 walleye lakes as a comparison. Our cabin is on a medium sized lake near Leech and we do pretty well there especially in July/August and most fish are too big too keep. I just wanted a frame of reference for comparison sake and picked the top 5 thing for illustrative purposes only.

I think I know exactly the lake you're referring to. If it's the same, I've had many nights of non-stop action with most of the fish being too big. I see this all over MN as well.

Ford sucks

Ford = South Dakota

I kid, I kid. If you can be happy with your fishing at the end of the day who cares what state you are in!!

Do you know why it's so windy in MN? Cause the Dakotas blow and WI sucks!!

The best fishing in any state mentioned in this thread is hands down in the Boundry Waters, 100 fish days, please..... at times you cant even have your bare jig in the water, i'v fished until my arms felt like they were going to fall off, and i'v had this action in alot of BWCAW lakes. Alot of people = harder fishing... get away from the herds, and your golden, even if that means hitting the state next door.

Good point guys. I obviously used a bad analogy. I honeslty think it boiles down to where you have had the best fishing days, and the best memories. I remeber one time a while back when all the fish where starving on Mille Lacs and we absolutely pounded the 24-28 inch walleyes. I guess a blanket statement of which state is better than the other is not easy to argue. I would just have to say that the Missouri is the best walleye "water" that I have fished, but I love the Dakota's so I am obviously biased.

I think you are missing the point when it comes to people choosing to fish in Ontario. The fishing is excellent, but perhaps even more alluring is the unbeatable scenery and solitude. You don't have to spend much more to fish in Ontario than in Minnesota unless you want fly-ins. My experiences in Ontario aren't any more "purchased" than my experiences in Minnesota. By the way, I love fishing in Minnesota and spend a lot of time doing so. I have never fished South Dakota, but it sounds like it would be an enjoyable visit.

Agree 100%. Kind of a snotty comment about memories being "purchased." And even fly-in trips to amazing lakes can be very affordable. My trip to Savant Lake in July will cost less than $1000 total, including EVERYTHING.
