Best boot for chasing grouse?

Recommended Posts

Pronghorn used to be a go-to, but the quality has gone down hill the last few years.

My favorite pair of boots ever were Irish Setters I bought in high school back when they were still made in the U.S. Lasted me 10 years, and likely would have lasted 10 more if I'd have taken care of them and the leather hadn't cracked.

Bought a pair of Pronghorns on clearance two years ago and I'm already looking at getting a new pair of boots. Garbage.

I agree with the others, the Danner Pronghorns don't last like they used too. A pair would only last me a year at best. I went to their Danner Hood Winter lites, nice boots, a little stiffer than the Pronghorns, but overall, a nice boot. Spendy, but nice.

Used to be a Danner junkie but the build quality and materials have slipped. I too switched to Meindel and could not be happier. IT is true the inside will wear out faster than the outside. Pay more keep the boots longer or pay less and replace them more frequently. That is the question.

I honestly don't know your conditions for grouse as I have never done it. I am a pheasant guy in switch grass and kentucky blue stem. I use lightly insulated Irish Setters with reenforced toes

Try on a bunch of good quality boots and find the ones that fit like a glove. I have some really comfortable Redwings, Danners, and Irish Setters. My favorites right now are a pair of Irish Setters.

Irish Setters. I am leaning towards nylon/leather combo outside instead of all leather. They require less after hunt care.

Now days my boots last too long ... because I just don't get the days and miles. 10 - 15 years ago a pair of R. I. S. would last two years tops. Worn out on top & worn out on the bottom.

this combination has worked great for me in all upland bird hunting,,,

I start off the early mourning with the rubber bottom leather upper [ll bean] type boot because early in the mourning everything is wet from dew

then

has the sun comes up and the dew burns off I switch to a leather more comfortable boot,

this combo has worked great
