Turkey hunting license

Harvey, the last FOUR seasons are over the counter. You can use any legal weapon you choose. The "archery only" season runs for the entire last four time periods and is also over the counter.

I got drawn this season and it states my preference level is 3. My group preference is 3.

So does that mean level 3 is better than 1?

Is this preference level for next year when I apply?

There is no explanation as to preference level in the rules. confused

I believe that was your preference level for this year. I'm assuming you did not get drawn the last two years, and this the third year (level three), you did get drawn?

It'll be back to one next year.

I agree. The lowest preference # is 1. I drew a tag last year and also drew a tag this year. My preference level that was listed was 1.

I am sure someone here can answer my question faster than I can look it up.

I did not get drawn for a turkey license.

I understand I can hunt one of the last 2 seasons. Can I use a shotgun or do I have to use my bow?

Thanks

If you don't want to wait until the last 4 seasons you can also try for a Surplus (or under-subscribed) turkey hunt license that is available to hunters who applied in the 2012 turkey lottery drawing but were unsuccessful. Surplus licenses will go on sale beginning March 19, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. First come first serve until they are gone.

I've had great success doing that over the years and will be attempting it again this year.

Best to be at a DNR ELS station well before 5pm if possible for best results. I think the online method has improved but I never rely on that and prefer the in person approach.

One thing with bow hunting turkeys. Do not get yourself tied into your blind if you use one. You can still run and gun with a bow. I've taken most of my birds out of the blind then in one with a bow.
