fishinchicks
Has anyone heard much about this? Who are they trying to attract? Is it a go for sure? Apparently, they are wanting to build about a mile from the farm of some friends of ours. They are not sure what to make of it.

JPenny
I'm not sure how it will effect your friends, but where they built the Iowa Speedway ruined some of my deer hunting ground. And there is a lot of noise polution for anyone living very closeby, not to mention traffic problems. I feel sorry for those that saved their money over the years and bought a place out of town to enjoy peace and quiet, only to have a race track built nearby. CAMAN
Seeing how the planned location is less than a mile from Elko Speedway and right next to Interstate 35 I don't see it having any more noise pollution than is already there. Except for the drag races those will be crazy loud, but how often do the big guys come to town?
gregg52
ya not sure bout iowa deal but elko was there LONG before any one moved in thereit was nothing but cornfields and 2 small towns that were glad it was there the bars any way lol
fishinchicks
My friend's corn fields were there before Elko. I was more curious whether anyone has heard that it is a go for sure. I didn't see anything on their HSOforum about it being a for sure thing, or if they are still in the hoping stage.
CAMAN
I don't think the corn will mind the noise. From the FAQ's Quote: What about the noise?Modern acoustical engineering and design techniques can result in both an exhilarating fan experience while at the track and an acceptable environment around the track. IMEDC is committed to achieving all applicable noise standards and to working with state and local regulatory agencies to devise and implement a state of the art sound management plan From what I get from the HSOforum... Quote: The proposal is being introduced Tuesday, November29, 2011 before a joint meeting of the Scott County Board of Commissioners, the Elko New Market City Council and Planning Commission and the New Market Township Board . Quote: The November 29 announcement will also begin the 10-12 month review phase of the project. It seems to me like they just announced their idea and plans and will do some reviews with the local governments for a year then see if it is a yes or no. And it sounds like if the project takes off they want to be up and running for the 2014 season.
gregg52
My friend's corn fields were there before Elko. well they should be use to the saturday thunder then...lol not sure exactly when elko opened but i'd say some where around 1970 maybe before i know i was drinking in the bar at elko (speed city as we called it..lol) well before my 21st birthday
fishinchicks
I'm thinking they are concerned about increased traffic, and all the other crud that goes with a Nascar sanctioned event. They are more concerned about the fact that they need to drive their equipment on some of the roads surrounding the area, and an increase in traffic could cause safety concerns for them. Uncle Bill
Hopefully they are better received than JD investments where in Pine County. BTW, JD investments went on to buy BIR when the Pine Co. site did not work out. Pine County's loss was Brainerd's gain (IMO) Here's a link to the demise of "Pine Run". http://www.mdra.com/nNews.asp?NID=
gregg52
I live 3 miles from BIRthey say just the Nationals dump about over 5 million i believe it is (maybe 10) in new money they call it into the economy here thats just that one week end of course the biggest but AMA mortorcyclces draw pretty good to pluse all the other events I guess I 've never really heard any one wine about the track and noise
Wanderer
I don't think the corn will mind the noise. Has it ever complained the noise has hurt the ears???? I'd love to see a track worthy of holding a NASCAR cup level event in MN. I'd be surprised if there was a real strong "Not in my back yard" mentality about it in the Elko area but I don't live there so I can only guess. SkunkedAgain
I love the idea and would go in a heartbeat, but like previous proposals, I doubt this one would fly because investors don't see Minnesota as a racing state. To a financial guy, investing in a Minnesota race track is probably like investing in a Utah hockey arena.
fishinchicks
I know I would go if they built it. We went to the inaugural Nationwide race at Iowa Speedway. Other than the parking nightmare, it was run pretty well for their first time.

Stick500
I know some of the guys involved in this proposal and an annual IndyCar race like they have at Iowa is certainly on their agenda as well.
hugonian1
Is this the same group that courted a similar development in Big Lake and Lino Lakes the past 2 years. Those were both shot down.

Twins 57 Fan
I do live in elko, right across the freeway from the proposed site. I have mixed feelings. Biggest concern is what it would do to property values.
CAMAN
Just got an email from them...Quote:What's the most famous command in sports? "Drivers - start your engines!" Well fans – "start your engines", because a new race is about to begin, the race to build the showplace for motorsports in Minnesota: Minnesota Speedway Park And your help is critical. After months of working behind the scenes to get everything set, we're ready to take on the biggest challenge this important project will face; getting it approved and permitted and past all the regulatory hurdles. This is where a lot of great race track proposals die, and we can't let that happen this time. That's why your support is so crucial. We've got to show that Minnesota wants this; that people all over this state support it; that the thousands of jobs it will create, the millions of dollars in salaries and taxes it will produce and the excitement and energy it will generate -- are needed now! We can't let this incredible private sector (not taxpayer) financed opportunity slip away. Please:-Go to the HSOforum-Sign the petition-"Like" us on Facebook-Forward this email and encourage your friends to do the same-Tell your elected officials to support it-Set up presentations at your clubs and organizations And most important of all, imagine what it will be like on some sunny afternoon in the future when the green flag drops on a thrilling new day in racing for Minnesota. Together - we can make it happen!
harvey lee
I would love to see it but I do not see it happening in Mn.
