...and leave it to the insanely paranoid to interpret what was written like that.

If you honestly think you'd be punished for defending yourself from an attacking animal, you need to get off that kool-aid! It aint healthy!

I prefer to iterpret the DNR's word in the most humorous way possible especially when they read like this. Do I think a person would be charged for killing an animal attacking a person, no. Do I think the wording is stupid, Yes. How about stating a person may not kill a cougar unless they are in immenant danger of attack. I think most people understand the term immenant danger.

Whoa Whoa!! Before you jump on me about my question, you need to know I'm not asking it to be sarcastic! I just want to know what would happen? I'm not for or against what happened. If these guys were truely concerned for their safety and trapped the mtn. lion in the culvert what would've happened? Why wouldn't you call the CO? Isn't that what we taxpayers pay for in the first place? It's not like they would've been responding to a "possible" mtn. lion siteing, it was a confirmed capture of one. Then the CO could've decided if it was a threat or not, not some vigilante's shooting any animal that they think is a threat. I can remember many years ago when a mtn. lion was shot in Worthington. So it's ok for them to shoot them in town, but if a farmer sees one come out his groove it's not ok to shoot it? I'm not trying to pick sides and make anyone mad. I'm just asking some questions. If it would've been shot a couple miles south we wouldn't be having this conversation because you can shoot them in IA.

The proper thing to do if you are not in imminent danger is to call the local law enforcement. But the fact is, the animal poses a threat by just being there in the first place, and how many local law enforcement people are equipped to deal with live mountain lions, and what would they do with it even if they did capture it? Of course, practical issues such as this are typically conveniently ignored by the animal rights people.

Every day of you (and your kids life), you are faced with predators, and most of them arent on four legs but you just cant shoot em because they are there.

This was nothing more than a cold blooded killing of a cat that was guilty of nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time and just being born a cougar.

Do I believe the cat was doing anything imminently threatening?... No

Do I believe the shooter and the accomplice were ignorant of the protective status of cougars in Mn? Yes

Do I believe that they are trying to justify the killing to cover their butts right now?.. Yes

There was a cougar shot on a guy's porch near McGregor Mn back in, I think, 2001. I don't believe there were ever charges pressed but in that case, the cougar wasn't to be frightened away and came back to the guy's porch a couple of different times. I don't recall if this was ever determined to be a wild cat or one that was released. Anyone recall the situation?

Randy

If I recall this situation correctly, the cat had tried to crawl through a window or door into the house when it was shot. Property owner wasn't charged.
