Huge MN Buck????

Recommended Posts

Jeez.....I only put the photo up to see if it was the one talked about in the original post, not to have it ripped to shreds over and over! WOW....talk about a tough room. Anyways, since that isn't the buck in question, who has a picture of this massive beast?

Man i sure hope if the guy that shot that buck saw and read this thread doesn't let any of these comments take anything away from how nice of a buck that is. My guess is there was no plan formulated to fool everyone here into thinking the deer is bigger than it is. My guess is thay took alot of photos and this one looked the best.

Pathetic, isnt it? I just sent the guy who shot that deer a link to the thread. He didn't post the pic, and he is not on here bragging about his deer.

As for the deer's head, yeah it is probably pretty big. I think the deer weighed 219 if I'm not mistaken.

The hunter asked me to post this for him, as he does not have an account.

The deer will go anywhere 142 to 155. Yes it is a very good picture though and not photo shopped. Dan Winegar - McGregor MN - 219.4 Lbs. Main Frame 8 with kickers to make it 10 scorable points. Browning 30 - 06 - Nikon 3 X 9 scope @ 350 yards

I apologize for my critical comments about the picture. They stemmed from someone asking if that was a 200 inch deer and from there it turned into something completely different. That buck is a bruiser no matter how the pic looks. I didn't mean to offend the person that shot the deer. I reread my comments and I probably did, If you know the person, please let him know I apologize and didn't mean to be so critical.

It is nice that you apologized, but I don't think it was necessary. I think people get WAY too excited/upset over comments people make. Lets face it, that deer was no where near 200" and you, and others, pointed that fact out. It doesn't mean that deer wasn't a GREAT deer, it was (the mass is incredible). But that said, I still don't think there is anything wrong with making true, albeit critical, statements that might "offend" someone; its called reality.

Now flame me for being crass and unsympathetic. grin

I agree with you, the issue here is that the guy never posted the picture. He wasn't looking for attention.

The thing I don't get is why was the picture posted? The poster apparently has no real knowledge of who shot it or where it was shot or how big it was, so why is he posting it? To be some kind of mythical hero that had the magic picture of the deer the thread was inquiring about? I would think anyone can see thats not a 200" deer..... Then, once it was posted, it somehow came to be that the hunter was trying to make it look bigger than it was and all that stuff. Heck the last place the hunter ever thought the picture would end up is on a internet forum which he didnt even know existed. I know its hard to believe, but not everyone wants to be the next magazine article expert pro staff hunter.

If you really care why he is so happy and all that in the picture, I'll copy and paste what he wrote to me about the subject.

And if you really want to get all those guys to feel bad on their little bashing sessions. . . The main reason I mentioned the gun (30-06) was because it was my Grandpa's who passed this year on May 7th. This was the first season without him. My Aunt and Uncle wanted me to use it because my 270 had a spring problem where the shells would not stay in it. The fact that I shot a deer at that distance (350 yards, only reason I know that was because of my range finder) was a miracle in itself since my logest kill probaly was only 100 yards. The deer is my biggest to date and the deer could have been half that size, I would not have even cared.... I am 34 years old and my grandpa came up and deer hunted with us ever since I can remember. . now he's gone and I shot a great buck for our area, and it was with his gun....The other reason my smile was so Big! I will miss him very much! If I could trade that deer for him being around, I would do it in a heart beat!

Hopefully this brings some clarity to the issue. The main point I'm trying to make is that this guy is taking sniper fire on a message board and he didn't even know it. Why is his picture on here?

I can't speak for others but I had no intentions of taking anything from the guy in the picture. Simply stating that the deer was not a record. I also said it was still a huge deer. Congrats on him for taking it with a great shot and with grandpas gun to boot. That would make it a trophy if it was a spiker!

I was not trying to be some mythical hero that had a magical picture of an awesome deer. Nor was I in any way, shape or fashion trying to bring any bashing towards the hunter nor the animal. If you read my post after the picture, I said as much. The backstory of the hunt makes that deer that much more special. I apologize to the hunter for posting the pic and bringing any undo bashing upon him or his deer. It was not intended in any way to be malicious.

Awesome deer, great story! That is what makes deer hunting so special. We often loose track of what it is all about. I also hunt the McGregor area and the bucks are some big swampers! i shot a 203 pounder this year and that one puts mine to shame. Great hunt.
