Hey herefish and mike walerak. Are the irish setter snow claws the boots with the aerospace gel stuff in the insole? If they are what does that feel like in terms of comfort over other boots, and do you think it helps keep the bottoms of your feet from feeling the cold of the ice?

I looked at Baffins HSOforum last year when in the market for new boots. they have all the models listed there and i believe the may have MSRP prices on the site. Then you could just try and search out the model you think will suit you best. I had found a pair of Baffin youth boots at gander that appeared and felt to be the warmest youth boots i have ever seen. It was just to bad they didnt have my sons size. That was the only pair of baffins i have handled and they seemed amazing. Good luck JMG

I would like to add to the question...

warmest - but also the most "mobile". Meaning warm - but also easy to walk around in say deep snow or deep slush or pulling a heavy load a ways. I have always wanted to try the mickey mouse type - but am fearful they may not be great when trying to walk any kind of distance...they look awkward but maybe not?

Last, nobody has mentioned the columbia type plug in boots that heat up. They are supposed to last up to 8 hours on a charge and i think are waterproof. They look lightweight too. I have been interested in those as well - but I also think they start at around 200 bucks. Thats alot to spend and would have to hear some great feedback first.

Good to know. I have the mountain claws which are super comfortable as well. I was going to get the snow claws but 2,000 grams of thinsulate is just to much for my feet. I would sweat to much in them. I kinda wish my mountain claws had that aerogel in the bottom because every now and then i feel the cold from the ice creeping into the bottom of my foot while the rest of my foot is warm.

You guys have me sold on the snow claws. I was going to get some of the 2400g fully rubberized brands I have seen around...but am also worried over time they may crack or I may snag them on a nail or something.

Couple other questions. Have you found them to be completely wateproof? I mean, standing in slush over the foot portion - over the ankle deep kind of fully waterproof! Also, where did you find them? Any stores carry them around the western burbs? If not, and you ordered them...did you fid they ran true to size? Like if I have other winter boots that are 10.5, should I order a 10.5? or do they then to run big or small. If there is a nearby store that carries them - I will just go try them on.

I have never once had cold feet in my Baffins. They have always done very well for me. That being said they are pretty bulky. But when its -30 my feet are toasty and warm. I cant drive wearing them which sort of sucks but I keep a pair of shoes handy in the car anyway. They have held up really well, mine are going on 7 years old which is a record for me since nothing seems to last more than two years for me.

Last year I did pick up a set of the Omni-heat lite Columbia boots for something to wear when its not at a extreme negative temp and I have been really happy with them. I don't feel that they are quite as warm as the Baffins but when I'm walking in to a lake they are just about perfect as they are comfortable to hike in. Admittedly, I haven't tried them in extreme cold but I think they would probably do fine. Driving isn't a problem either.

hoffer. there is a red wing shoe store right in maple grove that sells irish setter snow claws seeing as they are made by red wing. Thats where i buy irish setters and redwing work boots. They do a great job at getting a proper fit on you there. I have the mountain claws that dont have as much thinsulate or the aerogel insole. other than that i believe they are very similar. I have only ever gotten wet in them by stepping in a slush pocket that was up to my knee. no boot will keep you dry in that case. Other than that they have been 100% percent waterproof.

jmg,

i found them at a telephone locating supply store in fergus falls while working. they had just got them in not that long ago, i didnt look online much before i bought them. i paid $175 for them, they are a little bulky but warm as heck. a coworker bought a lighter version last year and loved em, he really liked the plastic honeycomb sperator between the insole and boot itself which lets the sweat fall to the bottom of your boot if you are doing tons of walking in em

I use Sorel Dominators, they don't make them anymore so you'd have to buy used. Mine have lasted me 20 years and my feet have never been cold.

I bought my wife a pair of the warmest Baffins they made last year and they only kept her warm for a couple of hours. The Chinese just don't seem to be able to make a decent boot, they look cool but they either leak or don't keep you warm for very long.

Looking to spend about $150 on a new pair of boots. A lot of good boots out there and really dont know which ones to go with. My feet tend to get cold but I think that could be due to circulation. I normally wear size 10 shoes and my last pair of boots were size 11. Im thinking i should go with size 12 just so my toes have some wiggle room. What do you guys think i should go with?

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
