Looking for hunting access by Hackensack

My boys (13 & 16) didn't have much success the first 2 weekends of deer hunting. They seen a few but did not have the best opportunity. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place by Hackensack that they could get a shot at a deer this weekend? We are not trophy hunters, just looking for some meat. Thanks

Check the county HSOforum they may post the info. Every county is different in what they post and how they post it but often times the info is there.

We did that for a map of our hunting area. They didn't have a map labeled with the info you see in a plat book but you could access the info and map seperately. We just printed a map and filled in the info by hand.

Anyways check it out and see what you can find.

If that doesn't work go out and start knocking on doors, see what you can find that way. Make sure you bring your boys with when you go knocking on doors. Maybe even go with them and have them do the asking, good learning experience for them and its always hard for people to say no to the kids.

I know there is TONS of potlatch land in that area. We hunt just outside of Hackensack on the Zone 2 side. I am not sure where the country/state/potlatch land is on the Zone 1 side, but it has to be around there.

Good thought on the potlatch land. Potlatch has a HSOforum with all of the land clearly marked on plat book type maps. That HSOforum also lables the surrounding public land so even if you don't use it to find potlatch land you should be able to use the site to find nearby public land.

Zapman, there is a ton of public land to step foot into. The Chippewa National Forest has the Woodtick Trail running through it. It basically runs from just East of Hackensack to Longville and north to HWY 200. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. I may be up there this weekend as well trying to fill a tag. Zap, Head north on 371. right after co 50 (on the left) you will see a small gravel trail named the wood tick trail. that road has tons of great trails to hunt and is relatively close to hack.

Good luck to you and the boys!
