It is just another tool to have. I had a young buck in front of me this year and it wouldn' leave so I had some fun with it. Tried "the can" over and over and it never even stopped or looked up. I tried grunting and every time it atleast stopped and looked around.

Other times I've called in two nice bucks with "the can." I did just call in a niced mature 8 pointer out of a swamp this wknd with a grunt call...

every situation is different but would keep one in the pocket for sure.

I had a bad experience with it this year. I had a nice ten a hundred yards out. I grunted him into about fifty yards, then he stoped and was looking over the area for the deer. I couldn't reach my grunt anymore because I picked up my bow. I had the bleat can in my right pocket so I grabbed it, and hit it once. He blew like a doe alert, and ran off with his tail up. I have never seen a deer run so fast.

The info I was using was a demo by Peter Fiduccia. Search youtube for Deer Calling Tips: Estrus Bleat Sequence

Not sure if what he says is true or not though smile

I remember reading that the long bleats are the esterous bleats and the shorter ones are used to cal fawns.

I've both good and bad luck with the can. I used to swear by it when I first started using it 'cuz it definitely called some deer in but in the past few years it's spooked more than brought them in.

I always have it with but don't blind call with it anymore. I only use it when I see a deer and I know it's not going to come my way. At that point I have little to lose.
