For my wife -- good comfortable warm clothes, plenty of heat in the house (much more than I care for personally), a comfortable chair, a good book, and whatever she wants to drink. Sometimes she likes fishing, sometimes she just likes being out there ....... as long as she is warm and comfortable.

Leave her home...

If she isn't interested in the fishing part, she is only putting up with it to please you. This should fade in a few years and you will be fishing alone...

Next time you hook a big pike, give her the rod and have her reel it in. If she gets excited and wants to catch another one, tell her how, slap her in the but and break the huddle. grin

x2 for leaving her home. She dont drag you with to home interior parties, why drag her along fishing. smile

If she enjoys it or at least wants to try, a radio works, newspapers, books, magazines, crossword puzzles. I know with my gf if I buy a Sudoko puzzle book, Im good for some peace and quiet for a good couple hours.

Mine actually enjoys icefishing more than any other type of fishing. She dosnt want to go all the time but 3-4 trips per year.

Getting her warm boots was real important. No matter how hot I had it in the Trap, her feet were cold.

She likes jigging panfish with the Marcum, and is actually quite good at triggering hits. Cant get her to set the hook as hard as is needed, but good enough...

Even though we have all the gear I only take her when the weather is decent and I have fish prety well dialed in.

p.s. - Im lucky, I can go whenever I want and she likes goin once in a while... cool

Not much can make me more comfortable when antiquing with her. Some wives/gf actually like to go, most do not. I tried with the permanent shack gig with all the comforts of home, but to no avail.......he floor plan did not allow for different looks, the color scheme was all wrong, and could not figure out how to incorporate in a bay window smirk Would be nice to have "company' on some of those long cold nights when the fish are not biting wink But, for the most part really enjoy the peace and quiet!

Nobody seems to argue about taking a kid fishing; Why is there any debate over a wife/ GF? If more women were introduced/ reintroduced to the outdoors it would help establish a tighter bond in the relationship and, perhpas, even save a few marriages.

I don't force my wife to come with but I ask every time and let her decide. She's great when she goes and helps corrale my daughter when the bite is slow. I'm praying for the day she suggests a wheelhouse like Perchking's wife did!

Mine likes the heat CRANKED in the portable. But hey, if she's comfy... I think she likes watching me tend to tip-ups and other things while she gets to sit in the warm shelter and watch her bobber. She also learned how to use the Marcum last year and thinks it's the coolest thing. We also take turns with tip-up flags. She always gets the first flag. That's how I keep her into it smile

By leaving my wife at home, I am tightening the bond and very well may be saving my marriage.

My best suggestion is to help try to find her a hobby that you enjoy as much as ice fishing, and don't whine about the money she spends on it.

Interesting topic. My wife only comes out a few times a year when we have a wheel house out. We also have three small kids and two are too young to be out ice fishing for any extended period of time so I don't push her to ice fish much. If she were into it as much as I am I wouldn't be able to go because we wouldn't have anybody to watch the kids. grin

As far as keeping her comfortable - She dislikes winter and doesn't have any warm winter gear. I shuttle her and the kids out from the landing in the heated truck and usher them quickly into the wheel house if we're going to do any fishing. Usually after 30-60 minutes she's ready to go home.

Often times our oldest will fish with me and sometimes stay overnight. He's six this year so I think he's finally starting to get a genuine interest in catching fish opposed to just running around outside playing in the snow and watching movies.

Wow...some women need to suck it up and be tough!! I love to icefish with my hubby, wether it's in a portable, wheeled or just outside. Getting out of the house and away from the "normal" is awesome. Perhaps that's why my hubby likes me so much....below freezing the last 3 nights!! BRING ON THE ICE!!

No...don't leave her home. We are just having fun with ya, bored, and waiting to get out. Give it a shot, as some have mentioned, there are a few of the Mrs. that do enjoy being on the ice. Maybe yours will be one. Good luck!

I am one of the wives who will ice fish more than my husband. If she wants to go take her, if she doesn't don't force it. But don't make her an ice fishing widow, because trust me she will resent you for it.

My wife likes going fishing if we will be out with friends in wheel houses; in fact, right about the time us guys start playing cards, is when she will start pulling walleyes up. Warm boots are a must, as well as a place to go potty. We bring a portable along on these trips, toss a buddy heater in there, and put the 5 gallon bucket with disposal bags and toilet seat in there. works great. Now I just need her to gain confidence in handling and unhooking her own fish.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
