Decent ground blind, decent price

Recommended Posts

A friend texted me and asked if he could borrow my ground blinds with the pending rain this weekend.

I told him I need them for us.

He asked where and what he might be able to get for a decent price.

I have a pair of Doublebulls, and to be honest, since I got them, I havent even peaked at new brands/models/prices. I told him I would ask on here for some suggestions.

Doublebull is not an option for him. So whats out there for a decent price, thats not going to also fall apart after a year.

Thanks.

For the rain...Wear Rain Gear...

I built a few of these ground blinds two years ago, and i use them throughout all seasons.

Get some of these camo leaf cut sheets. Link

I have 3 different colors for different occasions. Wheat Field is the one pictured above.

Then get some cheap stakes from FF.

link

Zip tie the camo blanket to the stakes. One on each end, and one in the middle. Roll up the blind. I always carry a back pack hunting, so this blind will lay in my back pack straps. Weight is about 1#, maybe 3# soaking wet.

When you find your ideal spot. Set up happens in less than 1 minute. I like to use two of these blinds so i have a nice big blind area blind with full 360 degrees of coverage. I use a swivel chair, and absolutely love it. A little wind movement and your completely conceled!

I shot this buck with the flash on grin and he couldn't tell I was there. I repeated the mistake when the next buck went by. shocked Had a fawn within 10' of me, and 30 turkeys move into that stand site also that day. I never leave it in the field, though you could. It also works great to set up during a drive while your posting. Excelent concealment for the little effort.

Pile some brush, corn stocks, etc for even better camo.

Here's the fawn. Dead center in the picture.

I have the Ameristep 1 person chair blind. Works pretty good. It has one of those folding camp chairs that the blind is built off of. A bunch of the other, you need to bring your own chair as well. I like the fact that it is all one piece and I don't have to carry too much out on the stand.

+1 Truth

I am trying this same method this year for the same reason Truth mentioned, you can have a couple of these out in the woods really cheap and it's super light. FF has a few different camo patterns in 12' lengths, could probaly make 2 small blinds out of that.

The Ameristep 1 person "Outhouse" or "Doghouse" (Can't remember which) about $30 to $40 at Fleet Farm. Just toss it up in the air and it comes down set up. Folding it up takes a practice session as the instructions look like they were drawn with a paint roller.

I have the Ameristep Tomtaker, but they aren't that durable, my one pole broke when I hit it with a turkey load from < 1/2"... Oops!

I do like it, have to be careful when swinging on a running critter that your barrel stays out the window.
