red dot?

Recommended Posts

Never used them but I would imagine you get what you pay for. I can speak for Eotech red dots. They should be banned! Best thing you could ever put on a rifled barrel, semi auto 12 guage with sabot slugs. Deer don't stand a chance.

I tried the Tru Glow on the muzzle loader last year, I got a good deal on it from the Sportsman's place in South Saint Paul. I love the idea of the red dot and in sighting in and practice it performed flawlessly come Dec. last year however with the temp. around twenty degrees I drew a bead on a doe at about 40 yards, pulled the trigger and the foreward lens of the red dot shattered into a million pieces, from then on the muzzy was only effective as a rather heavy club.

I thought you couldn't use scopes or red dots during muzzy season, thats why I use iron sights.

In Minnesota during the muzzleloader season, I believe the law says you can not use scopes with any magnification, so red dot sights are legal if they have no magnification (1x)

I'll correct myself. Red dot scopes are not legal. From the regs book:

Quote:
Only open and “peep” type sights (including those with fiber optic

material) are legal during the muzzleloader deer season. Scopes, including holographic or “red dot” scopes, are not legal for this season, except

for use of non-magnifying scopes by special permit for persons with

medically verified visual impairments

However, I'm pretty sure the law in the legislature actually includes restrictions on magnification only, so there might be some contradiction between the regs and the actual law

My brother had a red dot scope and he always managed to have the battery go dead and not have any spares to put in! Too risky for failure ifinz you ask me! 2c

You have to shut them off when you are not in the woods! laugh

I left a cheap red dot on for 4 or 5 days before and you still could have hunted with it.

You can scope a smoke pole for regualar deer season cant ya? Or are ristrictions on that too.

I don't believe there are any restrictions on scopes or magnifications on a muzzleloader during the regular firearms seasons. It's essentially considered a single shot shotgun/rifle. So anything you can legally put on a shotgun/rifle during firearms season you can legally put on your muzzleloader during firearms season
