Grouse season open- any birds out there

Recommended Posts

Moved one bird twice. That was it. I really hope they are in family groups still and we will start to see more birds as they break up otherwise this might be a rough year. Don't know about you guys but I was about 2 hours north of the cities and it was really dry. We tried to find water but there was little to none to be found and the little we did find was too hard to get to.

saw plenty of birds. upwards to 40. lots of family groups. north of rapids. didn't shoot any due to the leaves. had a lot of great opportunities in the mist today with all the birds hangin out under the balsams next to the roads/trails, but haven't shot a thing since pigeons this summer so my aim was off....

was out most of the day saturday up by the hibbing/grand rapids area checking tree stands but had the 20 gauge with. heard one flush in thick cover, didnt see it. logged 6.7 miles walking according to the gps, both trails and woods. its usually a really good area, i was shocked. saw one other hunter that had 2 flushes, 1 bird. we did find a nice 6pt skull about 50yds behind my parents house, which was pretty sad/cool.

Hunted nearly all day Saturday and, despite my better judgment, an hour Sunday morning in the rain. Saturday my buddy and I along with our two dogs put up two shootable birds (one bird twice) and knocked down one...a youngin' that had a single tail feather. I'm hoping it was just the density of the underbrush as the reason behind a lack of bird sightings. We also heard two grouse flush back in the brush, but I hardly count those in my tally.

Sunday was awful. The pooch was "dog tired" (Ha!) and all the wet grass made tromping trails miserable. We called it a morning around 8:30 a.m. and hit the dusty trail back to Fargo. Hope luck improves (and, in the meantime, the leaves come down) by the time we're back up in two weeks!

We were up in Cotton MN. We hunted pertty hard Saturday and hunted some nice areas with a local. Still didn't matter, one bird, that was it. There were quite few people out I thought.

Talk about dog tired. Gus the Dog couldn't even wait for spot on the couch inside to open up. He just deciced I am going to take this piece of concrete right here and lay down. Haha! crazy
