Its the magical sticker that will pry weeds and mussels free with its mighty horn...

It's a fricken sticker guys. People are going to walk into the store, grab a sticker, slap it on, and continue on with whatever they've always done. It's a sticker.

of course it is. i have one from 2002 and 2006 that told me what to do, where to do it, and what to look for. nothing new, just someone else taking credit for someone else's idea. tired of this garbage. leave the 99%of sportsman alone and deal with the ones that dont deal with the laws. are stickers a big deal? i have enough on my boat and trailer, i am an adult and have known about invasive species as most everyone. i follow the law as most everyone. these jokers that think about stickers should think about our priorities instead of feel good measures.

it was stickers in 2002 and stickers in 2011 and it's still about stickers instead of getting the slobs who violate the laws. give them a sticker attached to their fine and maby they will get the messege. good luck.

You guys have to be joking if you think this is about not liking the physical act of having to put a sticker on the boat. You must be kidding around...I know you guys are smarter than that.

If people think that the resistance here is all about a little sticker, you are missing the point.

The point is that we already need a 47 point checklist before we hit the water and leave each time to make sure we are legal. The endless regs and confusing wording of some laws is enough to drive a guy batty. Heck even the CO's themselves don't even know how to interpret them anymore.

Now we are going to tack on another dozen things to that list, and it just keeps growing and growing.

I think all we are asking for is a common sense approach to this whole AIS thing. We don't want to be deemed a criminal if we happen to leave a stinkin drain plug in the boat.

Most anyone who has spent a fair amount of time on the water knows that certain boats will transport water no matter how you drain them, whether that be in the ballast (wake board boats), in the engine itself (cooling intake) or heck even in some cases, water still remains in the bilge.

My biggest gripe about this whole deal is the wasted time, energy, and money that is being diverted to this issue and instead we could be concentrating on more tangible things like adding new CO's, improving public landings, or fish stocking, etc.

And for those that say this AIS prevention is more important than those issues I listed above, I would say what about those lakes that are already infested. The lakes are not dead are they? In fact in a lot of cases the fishing has got better (milfoil).

Nature has always shown us that it will find a way to overcome, no matter how hard we try to stop it, in the end we really don't have much control at all. We all just need to use common sense and be good stewards towards our lakes. Pick up trash when you see it, clean the junk off your boats, and don't put water from one lake into the next.

Is it really that hard?

That's the point.

all the provisions were on the first sticker in 2002 as i stated in my post. all except to bring fresh water for the bait bucket. invasive information has been in the regs as well for years. nothing new. good luck.

"It is extremely likely that zebra mussels will be introduced into Christmas, Minnewashta and other lakes surrounding Lake Minnetonka unless something is done to inspect boats and manage access at these lakes," Eric Evenson, director of the watershed district, said last week.

Evenson joined several environmental groups in urging Gov. Mark Dayton to close public accesses at all state lakes and rivers infested with aquatic invasive species during a government shutdown

Oh to have your own private lake!!!!!!

I know on some effected lakes in Wisconsin they have a video camera housed in a box at the landings, and if you dont inspect and clean your boat, you will get a ticket.

On the other hand, I was in Wisconsin this past weekend, and I was at 2 different lakes. I brought my dog swimming in both of them, and didnt give him a bath in between lakes, I wonder if he spread anything? He doesnt have a sticker on him, maybe he carried tiny fleas to a different lake shocked

Maybe he should get a sticker.

What about all the geese and ducks? Should we put stickers on them too?

Maybe train them to [PoorWordUsage] before they leave a lake?

Really? "p o o p" is a bad word?

Censoring it makes it look like I used a worse word.

How do you think fish got into all these lakes? They didd'nt just appear there, birds, and floods, allowed fish to slowly but surley take hold in almost every body of water in the state, so at some point after the last of the glaciers melted the fish themselves were an invasive species.

Now is a sticker on our boats stop water fleas and zebra muscles, no! Earlir on in this thread, sombody mentioned how big a pain it would be if we had to go take a class, but it might be the only option, 90 percent of the people i'v watched at landings are doing everything right, but those other 10 percent either don't care or don't know, and with the crazy amount of recreational boaters out there these days that have no clue at all about what there doing while on the water let alone when they hit the landing. Education is the answer, it just comes down to forcing all the idiots that think it's a waste of time, to open their eyes and comply.

i agree that education will help control the spread. it doesn't matter what the leglislature comes up with in stickers. look at all the years spent on education so far. they were handing out stickers back in 2002 and the regs have had information for years as well. how many realy read the regs anyway? just sayin.

there will always be those few who ruin things for the majority who follow the law. has always been that way. good luck.

So is that the answer? Make everyone take a mandatory safe boating and water rules class like you have to take hunters safety before you can hunt? You get your card and if you are caught out operating a boat without it you get kicked off the water and a nice fine? Don't pull the plug and weeds hanging from the trailer, another fine?

I wouldn't oppose that.

never said anything about classes. as far as education all you have to do is go to a boat landing and you will see signs educating anglers on invasive species and how to prevent transfering them to other bodies of water. there is enough money spent already on educating in my opinion. read the regs and it is in there as well. parents can also set an example to the kids so that knowledge is carried on with them. we dont have the man power to enforce these laws now so adding more on the list makes no sense. we are in control mode now, and everyone should be aware of being responsible in our waters. good luck.

As I'm reading this thread while watching Everybody loves Raymond an episode came to mind about where everyone had to be in the car at a specific time and it was called AIS...A$$ in seat. I think that would be a good sticker to have in the boat too!

How about just a sign on the way out, away from the water reminding people to pull the plug and check for weeds?

That's already the case at most DNR accesses I use. It doesn't matter as most people don't notice a 2' high by 3-4' wide sign. I'm for increased fines for offenders or increased funding for control research.
