AIS Sticker

Does anyone know where we can get this sticker that we all are required to have on our boats by August 1st.

Everyone knows stickers go a long way in stopping the spread of invasive species. wink Who the heck came up with this worthless idea anyway...DNR, legislature,...

do portables have to have one as well does anyone know?

maybe the sticker is a way that you can't play the ignorance card when they write you a ticket. since you knew what the whole Invasive deal was all about once you grabbed a sticker & slapped it on your boat...dunno just pulling that one out my bottom lol

in some fashion.

I agree... Knowing this state, it's gotta be a revenue generator

Read in Outdoor News (I think) that the stickers won't be available until late fall.

If I put a sticker on my fish house do I have to throw away my minnows every day? I bet the geniuses never thought about ice fishermen.

i dont know about hard water childish sticker rules however if it apply's make sure you bring a heater for your minnows and spring water to bring them back. there are times when i add lake water to the minnows on hard water so it's no different in my opinion unless like you said the stuffed shirt braintrust missed out on this season. good luck.

Don't worry, nothing will happen until 2014.

"We'll be distributing them this summer at bait shops, retailers and boat dealers," Skinner said. Boats must have the stickers beginning Aug. 1. Failure to comply will be a petty misdemeanor, though the law doesn't call for penalties until 2014.

What are you talking about? It's right here:

That political system has a horrendous track record of managing natural resources in the citizen's interest.

Our system isn't perfect but it is way better than that. Especially good to remember that this 4th of July weekend.

You will be an AIS revenue generator only if you don't follow the law, and get fined. I was given a free AIS sticker last month by DNR worker at a landing and it is on my trailer. At that time I was told by the DNR worker that a second sticker will come out this fall and will be free. That may change, as we all know. I would pay $5 for a sticker, cause it never is actually "free" and prefer DNR funding is maintained for things like research on how to control or ideally eliminate these things. The only expense that is cheaper than that for my trailer is a trailer light bulb replacement. And I run a very basic rig.

Already hear some who do most of their fishing in infested lakes getting lax about AIS, because their boat is usually in infested waters. Kinda like people I talk to who are up from Illinois or Indiana who say that ALL the waters down there are infested so when they come here it is easy to forget about the fact that there actually are places not infested/infected. Have rolled down my window several times at the stoplights in town and politely told the vehicle next to me that they need to clean the OBVIOUS lake weeds dangling from their trailer. The vast majority are also polite and say thanks, I didn't know or forgot. Now I mention bait buckets, etc. Everyone doing it willingly and self policing each other is very effective and doesn't burn any tax dollars.

Ironically, all the griping and whining and banter about the stickers is working to educate people about AIS and AIS prevention.

All it all it takes is one "genius", careless or ignorant person to screw up a whole watershed. Or a small spring fed pristine lake up north. Will they all be infected eventually? Hopefully not, and it is well worth the effort to try.

I talked to the DNR kid at the launch this morning and he said that he thought the one on the trailer was the one we needed.

So you're telling me we are going to need one on the boat in addition to the one on the trailer Lakevet?

All they need to do is scrap all these sticker ideas and save the money to buy power washers ($3k according to Outdoor News) at the infested lakes like a self serve car wash. Just pump the water out of the lake for it. Then they can have the DNR kid inspect it after that.

Too bad noone thought of making a sticker for the legislators to put in their office that said "Stop Government Shutdowns." Government would still be open today...

I have had the trailer ones for years.

The new program is for the boat. From what I have been told, the new boats ones have not even been made yet. One does not have to worry about the fine for not having one on thier boat by August 1st as they cannot be had at this time. It will be a no fine ticket and it will be a misdeamoner charge.

I had tried at several bait shops to get a boat one and noone knew anything about them. I then called the DNR in St Paul and they said go to the license centers at the court houses. Ha, went there and they knew nothing bout them.

It's great the DNR wants to slow the spread but with the birds going from lake to lake, it will never be stopped.

So I can get a ticket and charged with a misdeamoner for NOT displaying a sticker that has NOT even been made yet??!! Is this as truely idiotic as it sounds??!!

Please tell me I misunderstood because my head is about to explode.

Relax and take a deep breath and think about it for a moment. If there are no stickers printed how can they enforce somebody to have one on their boat? Even when it comes into law on August 1st I'm sure the CO's will completely understand why you don't have one, because they don't have one. With the state shut down they are going to be even further behind in making them once it opens back up. This doesn't mean the other parts of the law don't come in effect, like inspectors able to look everywhere on and in your boat for remaaining water, weeds, and zebra mussels.

I totally understand their view with the stickers. Its easier/cheaper to educate people with something that is required, than assume they will read a book from front to back and understand everything they are reading. There are far too many people who take these recources for granted and just buy a boat or PWC because it "cool". They don't understand or know which waters are infested and that by just having a little bit of weeds or some lakewater in their bilge or livewell, youu can ruin an entire lake. Yeah the DNR post which waters are infested at the acceses, but still people don't take the time to read them or care enough to educate themselves.

Would you rather be required to pay $50 (or whatever it would cost) to take a two hour invasive species class and get a card saying you passed the DNR's invasive species class before you can put a boat in the water? Or would you rather get a free sticker at your local baitshop and simply place it somewhere on your boat? Both do the same exact thing in educating you, just one requires time out of your day to do and the other places a simple sticker on your boat.
