NBA LOTTERY

Recommended Posts

They can fall as far as 4th. In fact the best odds are for the 4th pick.

From StarTrib:

No. 1 pick: 25 percent

No. 2 pick: 21.51 percent

No. 3 pick: 17.77 percent

No. 4 pick: 35.72 percent

In the 17 years the NBA has been running the current draft lottery system, the team with the best odds to win the top pick has only done so twice -- Cleveland in 2003 (LeBron James) and Orlando in 2004 (Dwight Howard).

The thing has to be rigged.

1992: The Wolves had the worst record but fell to third in the lottery. Orlando jumped to No. 1 and picked Shaquille O'Neal and Charlotte took Alonzo Mourning at No. 2. That left the Wolves to take Christian Laettner.

1993: The Wolves finished with the second-worst record but finished fifth in the lottery and chose Isaiah Rider.

1994: The Wolves fell from third to fourth and picked Donyell Marshall after Glenn Robinson, Jason Kidd and Grant Hill had been taken.

A history of horrors II

The Wolves have never chosen first or second in the draft. Here is a breakdown of Wolves' lottery positions and drafts:

No. 3: Twice. Christian Laettner (1992); O.J. Mayo (2008, who was traded to Memphis in the Kevin Love deal).

No. 4: Twice. Donyell Marshall (1994); Wes Johnson (2010).

No. 5: Four times. Isaiah Rider (1993); Kevin Garnett (1995); Ray Allen (1996, who was traded to Milwaukee in the Stephon Marbury deal); Ricky Rubio (2009, with a pick acquired in a trade with Washington).

No. 6: Four times. Felton Spencer (1990); Wally Szczerbiak (1999, in a pick obtained in a trade with New Jersey); Brandon Roy (2006, who was traded to Portland in the Randy Foye deal); Jonny Flynn (2009).

No. 7: Twice. Luc Longley (1991); Corey Brewer (2007).

No. 14: Once. Rashad McCants (2005).

  • we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators

It's kind of sad when the team with the most riches in the lottery gets Rose. Funny how they do things like that for lakers...celtics...bulls...etc.

NBA is kind of......sad frown

The thing has to be rigged.

There is a reason they don't show the actual drawing on air, just open the envelopes with the "results". wink

I used to have season tickets to the TWolves and hardly ever even watch the NBA anymore.

Of all the years for the Wolves to get the #1 pick this will be it....because there is no clear cut top player in the draft (A bunch of guys that should be picked (3-8) AND once they pick they will promptly be locked out by the owners. This lockout from what I've heard stands to be worse than the NFL one and there is a good chance games will be missed. So in a weird way it might actually be a blessing to fall to the 4th pick this year.

LOL

I think Kahn is going to get lighter in the wallet.

What can get you in more trouble with David Stern than saying his referees are biased?

Saying the NBA Draft Lottery is fixed.

Which is pretty much what Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn did after the lottery (where his team with the worst record fell to the No. 2 spot). Cleveland won the top spot. Cavs owner Dan Gilbert had sent as a team representative his 14-year-old son Nick, who is battling Neurofibromatosis, a disease that causes the body’s nerves to grow potentially cancerous tumors.

“This league has a habit, and I am just going to say habit, of producing some pretty incredible story lines,” Kahn said. “Last year it was Abe Pollin’s widow and this year it was a 14-year-old boy and the only thing we have in common is we have both been bar mitzvahed. We were done. I told Kevin: ‘We’re toast.’ This is not happening for us and I was right.”

I think it's because it would be anticlimactic. I think they draw 3 balls for spots 1-3 and the rest of the teams fall into place. That way they can't list the teams from the bottom up. I would still rather they show it live.

well what is wrong with David Kahn then that he couldn't find some big sob story to represent the team at the draft and get us the #1 pick? maybe he is waiting till next year when there might be some better talent...........but I like #2

Yeah, I'm not going to complain. At least we didn't fall to #3 or 4 like we usually would. Cleveland sucked almost as bad as we did.

It will be interesting to see what the do with the pick. Chad Ford (ESPN) compared Derrick Williams to David West. Kind of and undersized 4 that relies on his outside shooting for points.
