The Yeti
I've always wondered if smoking a stogie while fishing, affects the scent or catch rate? What are everyones thoughts. I'll light one up every once in a while. It's relaxing to be fishing and enjoying a good cigar. (I prefer Acid brand by Drew Estate or the Indian Tabac tubos)
dfv87
I normally hate smoking/smokers but do also really enjoy a good cigar while fishing. I really do not know why either. I like La Habaneras from the Dom republic. Had a brother in law doing missionary work down there and sent some back...WOW!I don't think it affects one way or the other, just keep the butts/unsmoked parts in the boat! abens1078
I'm fortunate to have a smoke shop with a walk-in humidor within a few blocks. So far I like the Questa Ray #9 and anything from Macanudo as long as it isn't to dark. I enjoy the more mellow (light wrappers) cigars. A good cheep cigar is a Savoy torpedo. We get them for about 2$ a piece down here and they are worth it, no cigar hang over taste in your mouth. If I go catfishing and don't have a campfire I usually light a Swisher Sweet and let it sit for the mosquitos to gag on. Long Gray Line
A good cigar while watching a bobber at night on Mille Lacs or waitin' for a cat to pick up the cut bait, it almost doesn't matter what the catch rate is (notice, I said 'almost'). CAO Brazilia Samba, just about any Padron, or when there's some extra $, any of the Ashton VSG's (not for the faint of heart!!!!)
kslipsinker
I quit cigarettes about seven years ago, and have been doing cigars ever since. I have found that if I forget a smoke in the truck, my catch is usually much lower. I firmly believe that fish enjoy a good cigar almost as much as I do. Love La Gloria Cubana's. The best smoke I ever had was a Cuban Cohiba torpedo. Ever tried a Opus X? They are a great Dominican smoke made by Fuente.
The Yeti
I had a couple of Romeo Y Julieta tubos that said Havana, Cuba on the tube. Authentic cubans? Not sure. But boy, oh boy were they tasty. I also indulge in a Puros Indios once in a while. Strong stogie, but a nice draw and plenty of smoke.
Northlander
Macanudo! Oh ya baby! I was on the Thompson Cigar club but didnt smoke enough in a month to continue. Boy those Rum dipped are great in the BWCA!
Gissert
Oh yeah, gotta have the stogies! Who cares about the catch rate, LOL.I used to be a member of the Thompson Cigar co, but their customer service gave me a lousy experience, so I bailed. Now I get all my cigars from Finck Cigar in Texas. When I splurge, I like Fuentes 858's, or any Hoyo de Monteray. Most of the time now, I go for much less expensive cigars. Finck has overstock and factory seconds sales that notify me via email. Right now, I have a box of overstocked Casino Clubs in natural wrapper, and they are wonderful. Nice and mild. Their Travis Club Senators are also a very good cigar for the money.
Wish2Fish
When the action is a little better and you need a somewhat quicker smoke, try the Fuente short story! A full body in a small package. Surprisingly nice.
JP Z
The NICARAGUAN FACTORY COROJOS CUBAN CORONA from JRcigar are VERY good....and at $30/50 they definitely are a good buy.------------------Tight Lines,JP Z
gundy89
I bring one along looking for muskies. If for some reason I hook up, time to celebrate. Other than that, I don't. As far as effecting the catch rate, I haven't ever caught more than one in a night.
IFallsRon
Used to be Swishers and Tiparillos around all the time until the kids started messing with them.
pikehunter
I'm still spoiled from my Bahamas honeymoon and the steady diet of Cuban Cohibas. As said earlier, truly the best smoke made. In the states, I like to enjoy Romeo & Julietas as well as Fuentes and Opus. By the way, if this thread gets any longer I'm going to use it as a petition the stop the Cuban trade embargo! Farley
Cuban this and Cuban that, you guys make too much money. "Backwoods" is where it's at.
EyesnSchnapps
I, always fire up a Fuente Hemingway or a Baccarat, when fishing. They have never seemed to effect the catch rate. I can't immagine not having a good stoggie while out on the boat. Wife never lets me have them when at home.
cheektowaga
Definitely goes hand in hand. But if you're like me, and can't set your rod down, you may be in trouble. Once set the hook on a bass bare arm went straight into cherry, cherry rolled down bare back and into shorts. I was dancing more than the bass.
