WI Opener

i took the boat out on a cruise today on a smaller lake. few hundred acres fairly deep with a slow tapering shoreline.surface Water temp was in the high 50's up shallow and the mid to low 50's once you hit about ten feet. Saw one bass cruising in about 3 feet. other than that no sign of life in shallow. Wish it would have been sunnier and warmer for the last couple weeks. For the record. I was not fishing just looking so don't jump on my back for it not being season.

Not much size to speak of for me, but did get a few, albeit eventually. My brother caught the biggest fish at ~18". Surprisingly all the fish we caught were in less than 5 feet of water (I caught a half dozen right off my dock just after we put it in). Any fish I marked deeper were non-biters. I had luck with small flat raps (the minnow kind) over developing weeds.

On the plus side I didn't hook any birds this year. My brother managed to snag a sucker, probably around 4 lbs. Also had a rather inebriated girl come down to the lake and said "I really have to pee" and she dropped drawers right there. She then asked if we lived nearby and what we were doing for the evening. Every opener, something strange has to happen I guess.

How did everyone fair this weekend? I zeroed today on deer lake in four hours of fishing. Only had one bite in about 10 feet of water.

Deer was one of the 3 lakes me and my buddy hit, we got skunked there too. We also got skunked on another lake, but the third lake we hit we got about 25 bass, all males 12-17", and in about 2 feet of water. I still can't be believe we didn't get any pike anywhere.

Water temps were about 49-51.

We caught 30 on saturday ranging from 5ft to 1ft of water. I got a 4.5 and a 5.5 in less than 2ft of water but the majority were small males. Sunday was a lil tougher but still managed to get close to 20. Sunday they were diggin the dead pad roots! We wasted an hour and a half fishing a lake that we found out had a harsh winter kill frown. Guy on shore said he had 30+ on just his shoreline 18-21" frown. Not good....

Cecil, I was seeing low 50's for the lakes I fished. These were smaller shallow lakes though. I'm guessing the bigger lakes like Bone/Wapo/Deer/Balsam were all a few ticks colder.

I am curious which lake winterkilled though. Most in the area that were subject to winterkill have had aerators installed.

haha nick. Were you fishing out of a nitro on deer on sunday blakjack? I talked to a couple minnesota guys at the ramp.

Nope, that wasn't me, I was in a smaller Alumacraft.

I was also on Wapo, but all 3 lakes I was on were around 48-52 depending on what part of the lake I was on.

I had any where from 46-49 on saturday. Sunday the lake I was on was up in the 54-57 range. From what we had if a spot looked good it probably was it just might of took 3 casts to the same clump to get em to take it.
