Walleyes

Yeah I don't get it. Especially down here. Peeps bitterly want to catch them and they want the limit to be like 1 a day. They're stocked fish! Some places they stock them 8-9" long.. It's like the ponds where they stock trout that die when the water gets warm.

SO true. If pike didn't have y-bones and people knew how to fillet them I bet a million bucks they would be stocked in every pot hole in the state too.

I am convinced that walleyes are really only popular because they are easy to fillet. They practically fillet themselves. Sadly, they practically reel themselves in once hooked too.

Well that and they don't taste like anything so all the bland diet scandanavians don't have to worry about fish that tastes like fish.

walleye can put up a pretty good fight in the river if there is a lot of current, of course logs and sticks do too grin

Agreed....I find rivers spell "Right" to me, and lakes have an odd smell.

Yup...lake fisherman smell odd.

Only exception is in the case of a couple sewer drain outlets in Mpls and St. Paul after heavy rains following a run of days/weeks in the upper 90's. You ever smelled a rendering plant? Better yet an old school Texas rendering house on a day even a Texan would say "It's Hot"? I can even handle that, but what flushes out those sewers at times can be like running into a cloud of nerve gas. Plus even the channels run from this area and you are hard pressed to even get a sheepnoggin, but yet the walleyes seem to be easy pickins using bullheads? You smell funky even hours after. Short of that, the river for me is the purest direct smell of American Freedom a guy can get. wink

LOL Ed. I know that smell just as well and the same I as I do with rendering smell. wink American Crystal Sugar is a customer of ours and I work with them with rebuilding their Sugar Beet screw presses. We re-clad the bridges with Stainless. At least rending components smell like a Bar-B-Q when being repaired (heated up). Sugar Beet components just smell worser than the funk to begin with when a touch is taken to them. sick
