Jiggles Report

Thursday March 31st 2011

Today my son and I went up to the Winnie to check how the landing was holding up at Highbanks and see how the ice was doing.

things look great and we took the sidekick out there with ease. could have taken the 3/4 ton out there no problem.

We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and catch a quick half dozen tulibees for pickling.

once we did that we started driving to the different areas of the lake where we had our villages set up.

the ice is in such good shape, I felt like calling every body and setting up houses again.

Anyhow, we take a run around the lake this time each year and pick up blocking and garbage left behind.

I check each place I was set up and every other place I know of where there was set ups.

My rig was just about full when I came upon this

all this, the leavings from one house.

I know which house it was.

so I tell you what, if this is yours, or if you know the guy from hibbing with the green permanent house, spray foamed, looks like a big roll off dumpster, then maybe you want to contact him.

if he can get the pile that I so neatly extracted from the ice and piled up for removal off of the ice before I get there tomorrow with the C.O.and a pick up, then you may be able to save yourself the embarrasment and discomfort of a hefty fine.

I make a living out there for ten weeks in the winter. I feel it's just the thing to do.

I don't mind and neither does scroungie. it's sorta like a scavenger hunt.

we have found useful items as well as the usual propane bottles and $hitbags. chunks of styrofoam and beer cans/bottles.

this year the snow melted and refroze before the water could go down, so a lot of stuff is covered up.

even in the villages it looks good but I know better.

there are two more big areas left to clean and I will be on it this afternoon.

who knows, maybe I'll find a hundred dollar bill??

Just imagine how much garbage wouldn't be in our lakes if we had more guys like you around.

Great job, hopefully you do find that $100

As for people that leave blocks in the ice. They should lose their permy privileges for a year. 2nd offense 5 years. 3rd offense forever.

nope, I picked it up yesterday. the CO called me to get a full lowdown on the situation.

I told him it might be a different story if the guy came to the lake ill prepared to extract timbers from the ice which I'm sure every thing was encased in, but maybe approached the resort owner and explained his dilema promising to return and get his junk out, but it wasn't the case so as soon as I get his contact info, he's going down.

oh, and enough with the atta boy's. really, I like to think anybody here would have done the same thing and it is really not a big deal to me.

I didn't post for pats on the back, more to root this guy out so he would do the right thing.

still looking for the hondo....

Understood, and your point of view is well received. We each should do the next right thing and as sportsman we all will benefit.

These guys need to understand this is not only an issue of pollution, it's a safety issue.

How would you like to hit one of them landscaping timbers going full bore with your rig on your first trip out? There is no assurances they will find a shoreline home as beach junk, or stay there when they do.

Empty #1 propane bottles take out there share of props every spring, just to name one safety junk hazard. People need to use there heads! Sportsman policing Sportsman appears to be the only working answer.

Rut-Roe...just thought of something..a potential Ruckus?

shocked

Is that considered Driftwood when on the ice, or not? confused

If so...them nasty Driftwood Regulations could apply here.

LOL!

OK...I couldn't help it...sorry. smile

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
