Northern Lights!!!!!

Woke up to a call from nature last night about 2:00 and was surprised to finally see some aurora. They weren't spectacular, but good enough to get some shots.

From the back deck:

From on the lake. From here there was some fog rising and because the aurora was so low, it fuzzed them up a bit. The red in the foreground is reflection in the snow:

Cool! It seems like it has been forever since they have been out. That's pretty cool that some of those photos are from your back deck. That's special country up there. Thanks, and good job!

you are right, that is special country up there. what a blessing to live there. great pictures. i haven't seen them for awhile myself. last time was during rifle deer season a couple of years ago. we all pulled out our chairs and enjoyed them. good luck.

Ken, I answered the same call at about the same time, and saw them as well, since our bathroom window looks north. But I went back to bed after listening to the coyotes howl a bit.

They didn't seem to be very bright, so I tried to go back to bed but it bugged me enough to give it a go. Took a few from the back deck and it looked like I was going to get some images, so drove over onto the ice road at the beach but the fog was too bad. Then went to Kremer Bay landing to get the shoreline shots. Got back home about the same time Beth was getting up for work!!! No wolves or coyotes, but heard a barred owl and the lake was making a lot of noise.

Wow those pics are beatiful!! Ive only seen the lights once up on lake vermilion and wished i woulda had a camera with me!! Nice Pictures!

Those are great - I especially like the first one - you don't see those much down here in the cities and if you do there seems to be a lot of interfering lights. Hopefully I will be up there at the right time in the future.
