2011 Sturgeon Excursion April 14-17

Sounds like a few boats as far down as Frontier today. Things are looking good for a great bite window for us.

Might not be able to fish the lake though. I remember it was like that a few years ago and it was fantastic fishing!

Most anything in the MH variety will work. I prefer one that has a lot of backbone for lifting, and a soft tip to detect the light bites. Several rods fit in this category. Shakespeare Tiger Rod is a great choice.

I've had a lot of fun over the years with a Steelhead rod that is 9' and is Fiberglass/Graphite composite. Kind of the best of both worlds.

Well we are finally seeing multiple days of springlike weather and the river should open a couple three miles a day so it should be clear to the bay by Walleye closure.

I was on the lower river yesterday and the ice was still solid and 2+ft thick!

Tribs breaking loose could put the stank on things in another week or two so we will keep our fingers crossed hoping that don't happen eh.

Thanks for the update.

I've seen a few pics of the whiskered fellas coming to the boats already!

Fisky, the metro cat crew will be holed up in the big cabin at the Wig, stop by for a beverage if you are around.

Metro cat crew "wannabe" boat #3 has completed all off season purchases and is scheduled for rigging next week. We'll be there with side imaging bells and whistles!

Should be fun for sure, looking forward to it. I need to redeem from last Spring's poor showing on my part, basically I was a no-show....

Sucks T.O. You'll be missed.

Replaced the bearings on the trailer yesterday. Good thing too cuz when I cleaned em up I realized I would have been stuck on the side of the road with what was in there. Gonna replace the prop, get motor running, and clean the boat out today!!!!!

Can't wait.

The southern MN crew, aka team redneck, will be in the Fireside cabin at the Wig. Fisky, JW, S Metro Cat Crew, and anyone else......Cmon by and share a cold one.

Anyone have any idea where I can order a flat of crawlers from, down there confused? I ordered from Jewell last year & they were waiting at Sportsman's when I got there, which I thought was just great!!!

Attempted to go on their site last night to order again & my computer tells me that it's a bad idea to go there ("Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!"... eek).

Anyone have any alternatives for us???

Great news everyone!

I just spoke with Adrian's Resort. They are offering a crawler special for us Sturgeon Excursioners.

Pre-order is required and they asked that they are provided at least a week notice.

Flat of Crawlers (approx 500 crawlers)

$33.00+tax for Adrian's guests

$44.00+tax for Non-Guests

If you look around at prices, this is a smoking deal!

Please contact them to place your order and or book a room:

Harvey Lee,

Last year you said you could bring some sinkers if anyone needs them. Do you still have them? Looking at the weather conditions, it looks like there might be some pretty good flow on the river in the next couple of weeks and I could use some extra weight.....

Thanks.

I was using 3 ounce no rolls up there this past weekend and that was plenty of weight. Current could change by the time the SE rolls around but I'd plan on 3 ounces being a safe bet, but could possibly be more/less depending where you are in the river
