OKAY GANG1....What was/is the BEST vehicle you have ever had for getting around in the snow? Now, I don't mean a half-track or ski lodge transporter I mean a street ready passenger vehicle.

I'll start: Volvo PV544 and 1999 Tahoe.

1988 Honda Prelude SI 4WS with a set of Blizzacks. We had a huge storm right after I put on the blizzacks. I was literally going through snow deeper than the hood of the car with no problems. Also made it through Wolf Creek pass in a heavy storm. They closed it down right after we went through.

I drove anywhere I wanted on the ice!

'83 F-250 that I had the front springs recurved and F-350 springs in the rear to bring it up a couple inches. Then added 31 or 32" BFG M/T's. Don't remember which. That was a long time ago.

Special ordered 15" 8 lug rims so I could afford the tires. No one made affordable 16" mudders back then. 15's plus new rims were cheaper.

Spent the halloween blizzard chasing my friends snowmobiles up and down closed roads.

Midnight driving the wrong way down Co Rd 42 in front of B'vill Center. The police in a blazer had no chance catching us and didn't even bother.

2am we were running up 35E through Eagan at 50mph and snow drifts coming over the hood.

Oh to be young and crazy again.

My current 00 Chev ext cab is awsome in the snow and ice. Ive pulled more than one vehicle up a ice landing. I think it has alot to do with the tires though, my father has the exact same pickup with some hard 10ply tires on it and it is helpless on the snow and ice.

My worse was the 82 Z28 I had in high school, very poor brakes in the rear. Had to shift the neutral at the stop signs or the rear wheels would keep spinning!

Well I have been blessed with a few really good snow vehicles.

My first was a 1991 Chevy s10 Blazer LT with good tires and a rear locking diff. I had it when I lived up in Ely and I got to say I really loved it in the snow. It really took a lot of work for me to get it stuck (I did have oversized dueler a/t's on it). It would literally drag itself through deep snow. Sadly the body literally fell apart from rust. It still ran like a champ with 300,000 miles on it but I was afraid I was gonna stop and the body would come off the chassis.

My next great vehicle I have for the snow I still have. Its a 95 Eagle talon TSi AWD. Its got snow tires, AWD and a big turbo, plus more. Last winter was the first year I had it out in the snow and I got to say it was my choice over my 95 Blazer I also owned. It is limited by ground clearance but I was out on the lake with it last year and I drove all over and never got stuck. Its a blast because it begs to be driven fast too. So you can drift it, thrash on it and it asks for more. SO much fun.

Two weeks ago I picked up a 2004 Subaru Outback and while I have only had it out on the lake a couple times and in the snow once it has really shined. Definitely better than the 95 Blazer I traded in for it. The AWD system works so good its almost disappointing cause I just go, I don't have to do anything other than point it in the direction I want to go and hit the gas.

The WORST I ever had was the 1983 chev 1/2 ton 2wd 305. It was the vehicle I learned to drive on and I got to say I hated it. I never wish a 2wd truck upon anyone. Completely worthless in just about every situation, boat ramps, wet roads, icy roads, snowy roads, hills, grass, mud, gravel, dirt, ect... Never again will I have a 2wd truck.

Mine was a 1963 Int, Scout jacked up with big tires. It had the little pickup bed which worked great for throwing the gear and porty in the back and giving her heck across the lake! Looked like this one but a lot higher and bigger tires! Fun little rig! wink

My old 67 Chev Biscayne was a highway dept. car and came with posi traction. That thing never got stuck and made it through a lot of spots most people would not take a truck .

My 89 Chev suburban went through a lot of stuff and I can't remember ever getting stuck.
