CHM
Mine is 5mm, 4mm, then 3mm Batson micros all on top. You are right-on about it being a tad soft for traps. The 965 is much better for that and deeper cranks. Having said that, several of us are using the 964 with traps for walleyes. I'll let the cat out of the bag... I'm using 10 or 12# mono or co-poly line and you're favorite lipless rattle bait. Chunk it out there about 60 yards and hold the rod at an angle...watch the tip. Tune in and feel the rod. When a walleye drafts that lure the tip stops vibrating. Rip, or pause, kill it, sweep it or make some kind of change in the retrieve. Then you get bit! It won't work everywhere, or all the time, but we had a lot of fun with it. I am convinced that walleyes will follow a lure right to the boat and then turn away. We've watched it.Oh - the rod catches bass too. I really like it for DT6, DT10, SK #5, etc.
RK
Hiya - I use three kinds of lipless cranks for bass. One of them I catch walleyes on, two I don't, or at least not often enough to be remarkable. Be interesting to see if we're using the same bait to catch walleyes... I have a friend who loves a certain lipless bait for walleyes - same one I catch them on.
CHM
I get 'em on chrome blue trap, the old crawdad Ratlin Rap, and my new favorite rap is the Bone color.
bemidjibasser
CHM- sounds like we fish similar baits on the 964. It works the shallower dt's well for sure and especially good with baby 1 minus type baits in my opinion.
delmuts
Just a FYI! I was planning on getting a new crankin stick ( 7-6 MH), but was reading some of the reviews and i may pass! It seems guys are having problems with breakage, and the eyes being faulty! I have an older one(6-6 M ) that has served me well for years!

delmuts
I was looking at Cabelas seeing what the options were for the BPS Crankin Stick. Think guys were having some problems with the 7' and the 7'-6" models. A couple said they broke , and some others had trouble with the eyes coming apart. Raider4ever
Thanks Delmuts. I might pick up a Skeet Reese glass one and maybe a Mojo (I busted two last year). I played with a Skeet rod at GM one day and thought it would be nice for lighter cranks and maybe lighter topwaters (I hate fishing topwaters on spinning gear because the line gets all effed up on the spool). The Mojo would be for bigger cranks.
RK
Hiya - If you want to give glass a try, Tackle Warehouse has the Powell 754 glass CB rod on clearance for $118. I fished with a friend of mine's last summer, and ordered one the next day. Great rod for DT-10s and 16s, Strike King Series 5s and 6s, hard swimbaits and even a pretty good Trap rod. Powell is discontinuing this model in the Max series, so it's a steal. Originally a $170 rod.FWIW...Cheers,Rob Kimm

MN BassFisher
I recently bought a Premier Glass Cranking rod. My first. And I like it a lot so far. I have only fished shallow and medium diving cranks on it thus far.

bASS_BLASTER
I think a one piece shakespear ugly stick would make a good crank rod.
