Arkansas Duck Destruction 2011

Recommended Posts

I think Y'all will like this topic!

The cold followed me down to Arkansas this year again.

Let me start by saying Ive never seen duck hunting like this EVER.

I may have seen a million ducks!

Total week harvest total 151 ducks! Stuttgart is truely the rice and duck capital of the world!

Snow, cold, ice, wind...I seen it all.

BOY is my shoulder sore.

Day 1 we hunted the woods (lots of ducks flying FEW cam in)

Day 2.. we hunted the rice and bean field lease

hunted from a levee (full of briars)

Day 4

best day of duck hunting of my life.. at any given time 1000 ducks in view.. nonstop action for 2 hours until we limited out (half of us in blind/half on the levee)

Lodges Corner about 15 miles from Stugart... smile

I would assume most of if not all the waterfowl hunting land is private and most of it leased to Guides?

For those that have been there how would a guy fair if just showed up and didnt have plans with a guide or know any locals and wanted to hunt ducks on public land!

My guess is you would be chit out of luck, if you want to see numbers like that Canada is a much better bet, plus there will be days or possibly a week when you dont see or hear another hunter..

We hunt on a field (beans/rice) that my friends lease every year. I think I remember them talking about that places around there charge like 125$ per gun per day to hunt a field (you go by yourself;;; dont know about decoys). Other than that you can bring a boat and hunt the timber, but I would recommend you go and scout the day before after shooting is over and really read up about timber hunting before hand. Although, Id rather hunt a field. Its easier and better.

Yep thats what I figured goes back to the pay per gun deal, not my cup of Tea. Those green wings are all colored up, nice birds..

If you only go for a couple days and don't have any connections, renting a spot in a field wouldn't be a bad idea. It's pretty close to a do it yourself hunt. I'm sure on the weekdays you wouldn't have a problem getting a good spot. Fields are way more consistent than hunting the Timber.

Decent fields with pit blinds run $300 - $600 per day. That is unguided and probably no decoys.

The old theory is clear - hunt timber, cloudy - hunt the flooded field.

The guys that kill the most ducks in timber are those that know how to call them into there.

Hey guys I don't mean to jack this thread but maybe you can help me out. Three of my college buddies and I are throwing around the idea of taking a trip to stuttgart over jterm. Non of us have ever hunted or have even been to the area before but we are kind of thinking of loading up the truck and giving it a go. Needless to say our college budget would only allow us to hunt wma's and public land. Sense we won't be able to lease fields or use an outfitter would it be worth it to go or should we hold off a few years until we can afford to lease a fields?
