I'm looking for my third battery in 2 years. Wondering what people believe are the best batteries for atvs. Looking for something that will start this hog in extremely cold conditions. Not another arctic cat brand battery they are junk in my opinion. Any help would be appreciated.

Another good idea is to install a battery kill switch. After replacing one battery every year decided to try this method and so far so good. What was installed was a sort of a large key that when removed cuts off all battery supply.

Know a few other guys who did the same mod and they also are not replacing betteries every year.

If not a switch at least disconnect one side of the battery for longer battery life.

What kind of kill switches are you using? I recently added a winch to my RZR and past experience with other quads tells me that a kill switch might be a good thing to do as a safety precaution. I don't want another key to lose but is there some sort of toggle or other switch I can put in a semi secret location to also reduce the possibility of theft?

There are plenty of battery kill switches that don't require a key, just look in a large farm or automotive supply place. I installed them on all my farm trucks that see very little use in the winter and they work great.

its also a good idea to start your wheeler every now and then to re-charge the battery, and to make sure you let it run long enough to re-charge what was used to start it, especially in winter. my stock yami battery is still going strong, its 9 years old.

I probably shouldn't tell you this as my last wheeler was stolen but here goes!

The kill switch is a large red plastic key that's located under the front lift up compartment. The kit comes with two keys but keep one in the compartment. The system was not intented for anti theft. It was intented to save on bettery life with the EFI system. The thugs who stole the last one simply lifted it off the trailer and rolled to it's "new" trailer. My mechanic installed the system and not sure were he bought it. He did mention not being able to find that exact same one anymore.

I'll have to try this also have an arctic cat and replaced the battery every year and the wheeler has very low miles on it 218. Hopefully a disconnect will help.

In the same boat as you. 06 EFI 250 miles. Used only in the Winter stored from April to November. Every November before the kill switch the battery was dead.

Polaris is no better. Mine is 4 yrs old and only wish the battery was that old. I also installed a plug in charger which I have disconnected since I found a small draw on the thing. I keep mine inside and plow with it and now just charge it when done plowing and shut it off. I won't let it sit idle anymore but, like the idea of a battery kill. I think 3 batteries in 4 yrs is slightly rediculous! at close to $100 a battery it sucks. I can understand upkeep but, that is poor by anyone's standards. I did switch to the Batteries + and the midgrade lasted me 1.5 yrs this time. Still not impressive.
