is it really a ford vs chevy thing? ive been looking around online this morning and the only true difference i see is the power. been looking mostly at the LX5 and the FL20... is comparing these units compareing apples to apples or apples to oranges, because they seem similar.. who has/used both and which do you like

I have an old FL8slt that works but am looking to upgrade.. any input appriciated

It pretty much is a ford/chevy thing.. The power thing does get blown up some. Look at what bells and whistles each unit has and pick the one that fits your style best. For me its the LX5. I like the movable zoom, and the Super Fine Line is the cats meow.. I have fished with them all, I prefer the LX5, but I do not try to talk someone out of buying anything else. Each company makes a very quality unit! And all will help you catch fish.

buy a Marcum LX-1 or FL-8 then throw $300 out of your car window on the way home to make someones day. Does it really matter if a fish is 4inches away or 3 7/8 inches away?? Its either gonna hit or it aint. Its just nice to see 'em coming. $265 or $600 i think you will catch the same amount of fish either way, the rest is just to show off. Just my opinion.

I got a chance last weekend. I have a fl-12, ice 35, and fl-22. I brought the family and a few friends out in portables to a shallow 5' max lake to fish gills in the weeds. All the flashers worked ok. My buddys lx-5 was ok, he could see fish if you could find a spot clear of weeds. The fl-22 was the cats pajamas. Right in the weeds could see fish moving and jig them out. Easy out fished everyone 40 to 1. May have just been luck but in the right situations this seems to be a pattern.

It has been mentioned a couple times already. You'll probably catch the same amount of fish, whether you have a $200 or $600 unit. There are some very minute details that are fun to argue about on the internet and with your fishing buddies, but it would be hard to say with a straight face that there are a whole lot of quantifiable differences. Interference rejection is important, the zoom (especially bottom zoom) can be important for some, along with whatever else is important to you.

I have an LX5 and VX1, had a FL8, and have fished with the FL12, FL18, and FL20 and one of the Humminbirds. Any flasher is better than no flasher.

Went fishing with a buddy last weekend. He has the Marcum LX3TC and i have the Vex FL 18. Both work great. Approx 3-4ft apart and with using the interferance rejection both were clear as a bell. If you want to upgrade you will not go wrong with either unit. Look at each and see what the pros and cons are for you and go with what you think is best. Good luck with the decision

Seriously? So if one guy caught 5 then the guy with the Vex caught 200?

Nice grin

10 out 10...5 stars....exceptional! Wow...both my fishing buddy's are going to buy one! (is that enough??)

I took my "Xmas present" a Marcum Troller out for a before Xmas test and it was fantastic! You could easily mark the smallest bluegill jig at 20 ft. (the deepest we fished) and mark both the tiny bluegills and the big girls.

I have a Vexlar FL8, which is great...but I really liked the Troller. Easy to use, easy to see and worked perfect!

I have never used a Marcum unit before.I run a fl-8se but would love to try new vex and lx-5. I think the SFL would be the best feature of them all. I don't care for the fat lines of the vex But to me fishing is also done by feel and I out fish my dad and brother in law with there zoom features all the time.

I strongly disagree, I bought a vx-1 four seasons ago before finally upgrading to a lx5 this season, wish I hadn't thrown away 300 bucks and just bought the lx5 right away.

Back To the original posters question. on the lx5 you can't beat the adjustable zoom especially if you fish for suspending fish, amazing, also the digital charger is the bomb, don't even get me started on the SFL.... That being said ive run fl20s and the flat screen is awesome, and the low power mode is the bees knees same with the new tri beam ducer and bottom lock feature. Both units are GREAT! Ultimately I chose the lx5 because of the cost coupled with the 50 dollar rebate they are offering right now

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
