LaCross Alpha Ice Kings or Clam Onyx boots

Looking to get a new pair of boots this season. I have always had a hard time keeping my feet warm on the very cold days, even in my old ice kings, so looking for something even warmer. Anyone have any experience with both? Or suggest something even warmer?

by far the best boot to get is the military issued bunny boot. you can pick them up at most army surplus stores. they are white and rated to -60. if you don't need the horsepower, they have a -20 version called mickey mouse boots. they are black and some fleet farms carry them in the military section. they are completely waterproof and the liner is lined with rubber so if you do happen to get water inside, your foots heat will warm the water in your boot until you get home.

I have heard good things about the LaCrosse boots, but not having any, I would hate to plug them. I have used the 'mickey mouse' boots from the military. They are not something you want to trek for several miles in, but for ice duty, they are very warm and 110% waterproof. They are also very cheap, price wise, in comparison.

I bought me a pair of the LaCrosse Alpha Iceman's last March...I've only used them once last year up on LOW (mid March)...there was about 4" of standing water on the ice where we were fishing, my feet stayed dry and warm. Although it wasn't all that cold... Before that had a pair of Sorel's I wore for about 17 yrs...You should check out Baffin boots...wanted to get those, but didn't have enough time to wait for the shipping on them for my March trip...

Irish setter snow stalkers, they have like 2000 grams of thinsulate, I own an older pair that at that time were called buck stalkers they have 1600 grams of thinsulate and my feet have never been happier, their super comfy and super warm, almost to warm to wear on warmer days. Irish setters are made by Red Wing boots. Good luck, and stay warm.

Notice one thing. No one has recommended the clam boots. They are a new expensive product that hasn't been tested by consumers for years like these other brands mentioned. I have some rocky blizzard stalkers. They are 1000gr thinsulate. I hate them. The toes don't seem to have any insulation. My toes freeze in a long ride in the backseat of a truck if they heat isn't blowing on them. Thats my opinion on the boots i owned. I to will be buying new boots before the season. I'm seriously considering the irish setter snow stalkers.

I've got a pait of the alpha iceman boots from la crosse. I have used them for the last two ice fishing seasons and could not be more happy with them. They are very water proof and almost to warm, I only wear some lite cotton socks with them. Hope this helps.

I was just going to post this as a new question - until I saw this post. My question was going to be "how do you guys who have them - like the 1 piece rubber boots" the ones like the kinds mentioned above. I looked at the G store brand. They have one with 2400 grams of thinsulate. The price is about 50.00 less. They looked decent.

My main concern is how do these hold up? I am tired of wet feet from water/slush coming over my boots when drilling holes etc...

These taller one piece boots seem to be a great option. From all the research i have done - it doesnt seem like them keeping feet warm is an issue at all. Again, my main question is how they hold up...rips, tears etc...

Thanks!

Hoffer

Oops!!!

I should have read closer!

I looked up the lacrosse alpha ice kings - and they arent the one piece rubber boots i was thinking of. I just saw the word "alpha" and I think lacrosse makes an "alpha burley" that is one piece rubber. So thats what i was thinking of when I read the title of the post. I dont want to hijack the original posters thread...but if anyone has the 1 piece rubber boots - any brand etc...maybe you could comment on those as well - and it could help the original poster as well.

I have a pair of the LaCross Alpha rubber 1500 gram boots your talking about. This is my second year year with them for hunting they have held up great so far and are extremely comfortable. I would call them warm for fall hunting but it would need to be a warm winter day before I would wear them on the ice, but like my first post states I get cold feet easy.

Picked up a new pair of the C-store Inferno Pac Boots a couple weeks ago. 2000g of Thinsulate, waterproof and high enough for my needs. Really can't wait to put them to the test this year.

Wore a pair of Sorel Caribou's for the last 20 years, finally had to part with them as they started leaking, but they did their job well for a long time.

Bought a pair of Ice Armour [ Clam Onyx ] boots 2 yrs ago from Reed's in Walker. They exceeded my expectations. Super warm and very comfy. A little bulky, probably not good for hunting/ mud though I can easily drive w/ them on. I even used them regularly on Lake Michigan last spring. Bye cold feet.

Cabelas Inferno pac boots are awesome. They are rated to -135 and not as bulky as most pac boots. I have yet to have cold feet with them and they're only $130 or so.

They are also on sale now for $119. Have been looking at them for awhile. Hoggs do you have a prob with not having removable liners? I have had a pair of Sorels for the past 15 yrs, can't remember what kind they were but were rated for -100 and they were AWESOME. Are now starting to leek. I did have to remove the liners to dry after having on all day though. Without getting a boot dryer, which I don't want to do, I have held off on the Inferno. Do they dry overnight without being able to remove liner?

I have had Ice kings for 4 years and while they are really warm they are not the best to walk in... But to sit on a bucket or standing in slush they are money!

I also bought the C brand pac boots (2000 grams) this fall and for night trolling my feet were toasty! A buddy of mine recommended the C-brand Infernos also. But I went for the cheaper ones as I am not as die hard about the cold as he is...

Not ones that Iv'e seen mentioned is the C store Polar Cap boat. I have used these for 2 years Deer hunting and on the ice. Iv'e always had a hard time keeping my feet warm but even after sitting in a blind for a few hours in single digit temps my feet were "cool" at the worst. As far as on the ice they are just right, been very happy so far 99.99.

Lutzy,

I haven't had a removable liner in a boot since high school, so I can't comment on removable liners. All that I know is that the Cabelas Inferno boot has never given me wet feet through water and sweating. They are not meant to be a boot where you're going to be walking miles on-end (foot sweat). Ice fishing and sitting in a tree stand, they are great!

As a side note, I did have a pair of the Rocky (ice or blizzard) Stalker 1000 gram boots and got cold toes, quite a bit.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
