What kind of boots?

chris63

Question

I currently own Lacrosse Ice Kings?and a 1200 gram set of Rocky boots. The Rocky's are about 5 years old and have sprung a leak.I want to get a set that are warm for sitting but good for walking as well. The IceKings are great for Ice Fishing not so much for walking the woods.Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!c63

i got mine at gander.... i will never wear another boot besides baffin! mine are rated to -150 degrees and they are lighter than just about every other boot out there. they are the best boot out there for ice fishing IMHO

a simple google search reveals tons of other places to buy them also

I have 2 pairs of Baffin boots.

One is the Titan which is all ruber with removable liner and rated for like -150 f or something. This boot is a little bulky but light enough to walk in and very warm.

The other is the Trapper which is also all rubber with removable liner. much smaller in size, rated for around -100 f. And light enough to walk all day in and warm enough to sit on the ice.

Both pairs were less then $100 each.

I ordered mine from winterfootwear dot com. check them out.

Tonight I checked out Fleet,Gander,REI and Cabelas.Ended up getting some Muck boots.Rated to -40 but they are all rubber and won't get wet!All boots were Made in China.Surprised you can't easily find American made boots anymore.c63

I think there are some products that would or will still have a market in the us even if they cost more.Fishing reels and boots come to mind.c63

Redwings are still made in USA (some in China however. Not sure which ones)

Not enough people will pay extra for stuff made in USA.

chris, I think you'll like the Muck boots. IMO one of the best slip on boots for fit, feel, and light weight.

I wear mine year round if there is any water or mud. I know they're rated at -40 but that is with some activity.

If you'll be sitting on the ice all day in temps below 0 you might what to take the Ice Kings along.

I walked some this weekend.Mostly sat in the deer woods.VERY wet walking.I do like the muck boots I bought.Agreed that -40 rating would only be with activity.I will need something warmer for late season Bow hunting/Ice Fishing.I think I'm going to try some Baffin's.Thank You for all the comments/suggestions.Happy hunting/fishing/whatever to all!!!!!!!!!c63

After doing some research on here last year I ventured away from the Baffin because they weren't very waterproof. Went with the Cabela's Trans-Alaska™ III Pac Boot. Their stock number is 83-0531 if you want to look them up. I've been more than satisfied with them so far! They are light, very comfortable, and super warm. I have poor circulation in my lower legs and I can't tell you how many times I've suffered in the past. The only thing I can tell you is that if you order them get them one size larger than you would normally order. The reviews online @ Cabelas stated the same thing and they were right on the money. One last thing I will mention is that I have only had them since last winter and now have been using them during deer hunting everyday since the monday after the opener, not sure how they will hold up long term that's yet to be determined. They are made in China too unfortunately.
